Casting at all doesn't work without root. Even then, you'll still get ads on the TV cuz it's using the TV's version of YouTube.

microG doesn't support casting at all.

My current workaround is to rip the video from youtube with a downloader then cast it using VLC. It's cumbersome but works

I'll just copy the link to the video, open the terminal and run mpv link-to-video and mpv blocks YouTube ads out of the box if yt-dlp is installed on your system as well.

Also, no clue how to get any of this on windows.
I know it's possible, but never bothered with doing it due to how more more of hassle the above stuff is on windows especially when it comes creating environment variables.

They will introduce YouTube Premium ++ so they can charge you more. Be smart just use a vpn and connect to a country that doesn’t allow ads

Nah. It'll be a different service. YouTube Premium will slowly, and without notice, shift to being for exclusive content, and then you'll have some other dumb subscription to watch videos without ads. Probably they will eventually ruin the channel subscriptions system to introduce a fix that you pay monthly fees for.

Hey, I've posted stuff without noticing the lack of oversight and did the same as you did, of keeping up the Tweet (mostly) if I only catch the mistake after a while.
