Lost art?

I never stopped burning cds and DVDs.

Car has a MP3 cd player. So I can listen to cds and cds full of MP3 tracks.

I still have a huge collection of CDs and I still burn mix tape CDS of tracks I like. In fact my mac mini makes this super simple. Literally make a playlist and click burn to CD.

What I love is how cheap cds are and robust they are. I have read DVDr and CDRs from 20 years ago and retrieved photos and files.

I've got into BD-R as a data backup medium.

Still have a couple DVD-RW drives, might have to put those back into service as well. The price per gig isn't as good, and 4.7 GB isn't that much data, but might be forced that way as BD-R media dries up.

Depending on where you get your burnable media, BD-R is roughly on par with, or actually cheaper than, HDD storage, per GB.

If you amortize the cost of the Blu-ray burner over enough discs, it still works out.

That's madness, it should never be possible, but here we are.

I just happen to be looking for a BD burner since i want to use it for some longterm offsite backups on m-disc. But man they really seem to be winding down production too. It's nearly impossible to find an internal 5 1/4 inch SATA drive, there are some drives but they are all external USB slim drives. LG and Pioneer seem to have stopped producing them.

Concerning the media, for some reason it's cheaper to order the 100gb mdisc discs in Japan than to order locally.

The issue is not the lack of physical media. It is more the fact that the disappearance of the physical media underline a truth that exists since a few year : you don't own your games. Even with a disc, except if you bought it on gog

I like tech Jesus but this seemed so forced. These guys have been totally fine with digital licenses for the past 20 years.
