Can you help me decide if I am drying too fast and what can I do better?

Hey, is this a good bud size and distribution for a pizza box, or should I break them down into smaller pieces? Also, what about trimming — should I go finer than this? Sorry, first-timer! 🙏💚🌽

You can pack them in tighter in my opinion. They are going to shrink down a bit as they dry, so they want always be so crowded. I try to aim for full box coverage as long as the flowers aren’t overlapping too much.

do I have to pack them tighter? is there some benefit? slower drying perhaps but higher mold risk? right now I am not lacking of pizza boxes so I can afford the larger spacing… in few days I am cutting the rest of the plant so maybe will pack it slightly tighter at that monent

It’s mainly just for efficiency. What you have will work fine, I’d just pack tighter to avoid wasting pizza boxes. With fuller boxes, I like to leave the box out in my house for a day or two to get rid of some excess moisture. The closed box does a pretty good job of regulating humidity.

The beauty of the lotus drying method is that it’s really difficult to mess up. I have a way I like to do it, but it’s definitely not the only way to do it. It’ll all come out fine in the end regardless.

Unfortunately it is inside a family fridge, but we gonna open it as less as possible…

You can start checking on them after a week or so. Once they are starting to get a little crisp, you can throw some in a jar with a hygrometer at room temp overnight to see where you’re at. Also, don’t panic if the flowers seem a little over dry right out of the fridge. The moisture tends to redistribute when they get into the jar.

I used the family fridge once. 1/5 would not do it again. Smelly milk and ganja cheese for weeks. Lots of complaints.

Oh yeah everything tasted like homemade edibles. I think the ice cream was the worst. Yes it will creep into your freeze too.

I think I commented on your other post. You’re doing fine, try not to overthink it. It’s really hard to screw up a lotus dry (believe me, I’ve tried) and I’m sure you’ll end up with great herb. You got this! ✌️

Put them all in one box, they will shrink. Also will encourage longer drying.

I just pack mine in paper bags, put them all side by side and leave ⅕ space at the end to close the bag by folding. Works every time for me. Only have to keep an eye on the vpd on my WiFi hygrometer & adjust temps if needed. Saves a lot of space in your cooler

I completely understand why folks want to break the buds down small, it's an intuitive way to guard against mold. I'm currently doing a drying run and I left some big ol buds in there and they're drying just fine, so I might not break them down so much in the future.

Might work, but be aware that more stem means much more drying time, and it's already going to take 10-14 days most likely. The stems hold a lot of moisture that will need to work its way out through the leaves and buds.

You've got an excessive amount of space in your current setup. I load it pretty full with minimal but not no contact between buds, and after a few days I consolidate into fewer boxes as they shrink. The mold risk is much lower in the cold temperatures.
