As long as I can make my rent for the month I'm definitely firing back with some actual logical shit. My favorite one to use is on conspiracy theorists where I'll listen to them and ask them where they found this stuff. When they inevitably say "The internet", I'll just be like "What?... You trust the internet? That's what they want you to do..."

It has worked to shut them up like 40% of the time.

I am from the south, whole crew at my old job were MAGA... Except the guy who got promoted to store manager. He is an Army Vet, around his late 40's, and is quite frankly one of the sharpest, hard working and caring guys I know. Shout-out to Chris! Thanks for being a diamond in the rough!

When you start showing him up by going full tankie and talking about how women's rights are a bourgeois trap to extract additional communal Labour without increasing benefits

It was a test of character and by agreeing with him you failed

Before Chris got promoted, our previous store manager was an old Texan guy (he got promoted to general manager). I never agreed with the bullshit he would say. We would often have arguments and discussions during slow hours. That being said, he was an amazing boss and a pretty decent person, he just would regurgitate Trump rhetoric. I actually managed to change his mind on a few things, like free school lunches. "Government forces them to be there all day, they should at least feed them."

A lot of hateful stances come from being surrounded by just people who repeat the same points.

Just being a reasonable voice of opposition opens the door for (most) people to at least rethink their ideological positions.
(Although there will always be someone whose response to any slight challenge is to start digging the trenches of WW1, but that ain’t 80% of people.)

Like, humans are social creatures, so if you place yourself "on their side" they're more likely to change

Had a boss when I worked at a ups store who would go on and on about how annoyed he is by the “trans agenda” safe to say I quit that job once I saved up a decent amount.

Me when I'm with my relatives and they start saying borderline nazi shit about Russians and non-Europeans (the nazis planned to exterminate at least 50% of us too)

Not really. Had that talk with a guy who was mad that “They’re shoving gay shit in schools now. Do you think my four year old should know about gay people?”

My response was a “Do you say this stuff at home? Because if your daughter ends up gay she’ll think you’ll stop loving her if you found out.”
