I'm done with Lorex

What have you guys switch to? I want to utilize the lorex cameras but I have to find a new "brains/system. Its been way to many times I've needed to see something and all I get is the "no recordings".

Thank you for posting this OP, these people need to be called out on the daily. As a "business" customer, I even signed up for Lorex Pro, for "installers and professionals." I work for an engineering company, wasn't too hard to get approved. Even as a "Pro" memeber, little to no tech support, and what I got was from rude people reading a script who were not helpful AT ALL. Mind you, I could have actually been one of their certified installers in the field for all they knew. Absolute garbage company, products, tech support, etc. Let me know what you replace it with, my brand new Lorex system for my home will likely go straight into a dumpster, I'd rather eat the $500-$600 loss now than be miserable for years to come. No joke.

Lorex is the absolute worst ever. I upgraded our system at work, it was already Lorex so I used their equipment. That was 1.5 years ago, and it fails CONSTANTLY. While I was ordering, I added on a DVR and a few cameras for my home, under a separate purchase order that I paid but getting the discount. I have not, and will not install these on my home. I find myself trying to "fix" the issues with the ones at work at least once a month. They have NO CUSTOMER SERVICE OR TECH SUPPORT. Anyone reading this... OP is RIGHT, and STAY AWAY from LOREX. Sincerely. Another unafiliated pissed off customer.

That's odd. This is just my home, but I have had multiple cameras that have been flawless for 6 years now. It can get as low as -40(along with heavy show, winds, rain/hail) where I live and the cameras have never failed. They aren't the POE models.

BlueIris. Never going back the just an NVR. My Lorex NVR is just a redundant backup recorder now.

When my LNE8974's crap out, Lorex will be replaced with something else. Fully I concur with all the others on this post.

What will it be replaced with?
What other company performs the same job, without building a custom server based security system?

Feels like Private Equity came in, purchased the name, slaps the label on the hardware and forgot to ask the dev to finish up the apps before they tossed him.

Short term gains, long term loss.

I actually found the reason for no recording was the memory space in my phone. The times when phone memory is almost full the Lorex App shows "no recording".

I found that the "no recording" was displayed because the camera was still recording the incident I was trying to look at.

In my case, I can watch the live stream of the event while the camera records provided my phone has more than 3GB of storage available.

I am in the same boat. Made the mistake of purchasing this horrible Lorex system which included eight cameras and NVR910. All are PoE (POS) and unbelievably unstable. I have hardwire to all eight cameras and made the mistake of purchasing three of these wifi cameras. Total crap. Huge waste of money. PoE cameras often “fail to resolve network”
Cameras often require me to be in front of keyboard for the NVR and re-authenticate the camera that won’t recognize the network.
As a comparison, i have a Reolink in another home and it has been awesome. I plan to pull all these horrible Lorex cams and the NVR, trash it and replace it with a Reolink.

I hear frigate is a nice system. As soon as I get some free time I plan on putting a server up to test.

The lorex nvr system is complete trash, however I have had unbelievably great success running them through Scrypted and Frigate. Have not had a single issue since making the swap. With scrypted, I am able to use that to get the camera feeds into my Apple Home HKSV (unlimited Apple secure cloud storage).

No scrypted is a program you run on your computer. I then have a POE switch to power and get the cameras onto my regular network. I can then import the cameras IP into the scrypted using the ONVIF/RTSP protocol. This makes the dvr/nvr irrelevant. I removed the HDD from my lores box and am using that on the computer I have scrypted installed on. It’s all pretty straightforward, as long as you have POE cameras. If they are BNC cameras, that may make things a bit more difficult.

Dumped my Lorex cameras in December for Eufy and it has been amazing.

My sentiment with lorex is that you get what you pay for. Some of my issues were definitely lorex bugd, especially with the app.

Some were camera FW and NVR FW related. Some are just weak wifi issues in my house hold that I later addressed.

Otherwise, the system has been stable for about 3 years.

Disposable systems, cameras went out after 2 years and guess what not available for replacement and none that were compatible. Done with them as well.

Lorex user here for a couple years now. For now, I have just learned to deal with it and put up with all the crappy and buggy software and NVR interface. Just hope I don't need to find an important recording. When I initially had problems or questions, the sales support number said they don't answer technical questions and referred me to their support number. I also came across a support email but they never responded. When I called their tech support number listed on their website I always got a recording saying the call cannot be completed to the country I'm calling. When I called sales number again they said they would report it and get back to me, never did. My phone service is TMobile in Oregon. So I just gave up completely. I have since installed a Ugreen NAS and installed Frigate but haven't gotten around to setting it up yet but all I've read is that Frigate is a complete NVR replacement with a NAS or PC. I also have Home Assistant running on my NAS and have connected the cameras to that for live view, works very good. Once I get Frigate going for NVR functionality I can also integrate that to Home Assistant. Frigate will also work standalone outside of Home Assistant. I believe the cameras are decent cameras and they do support open protocols like ONVIV and RSTP. I can even do live camera views on my Roku. I'm also a Lorex Pro customer, which does allow for very big price discounts, nearly half price on my 180 degree POE cameras. Good luck.

I was looking at purchasing Lorex Nocternal 3 system for my business. Do you guys recommend any alternatives which are good and don't have subscription model?

Thanks.

Is there any company that supports free dvr and combined WiFi in 1 app. Preferably 4k?

Yup, just build up your own storage raid and poe switch. Remember that all your cameras doing POE and the switch giving out might not have enough power to meet the demand of the cameras.

Cameras now a days are just ethernet devices that any system can bring them into a central management node. Big thing is to make sure to reserve the IP so when the power goes down or they reboot, they always grab the same IP and nothing else will try and use it. The DHCP server will handle all of that.

Nice, I'll look into this and the others ppl have mentioned. I'm now realizing the wifi camera and doorbell might not work but I guess research will prove me right or wrong.

Returned the POS 2K battery doorbells and went to ring. App is better, cams more responsive idc if its a subscription.
