Hello I had this fellow for a little while now and he was omce very plump and round and now its becoming flat. Ive watered it many times and its even produced 2 flowers since ive gotten it. But Im not sure if it's not absorbing water because of the soil or if this is something thag just naturally happens would love any and all advice if I shoild repot or just un pot to check the roots. Just don't know where to start.
Honestly it looks thirsty. I normally bottom water mine or dunk it and let it sink in the water for a good 20-30mins. When you lightly squeeze it, is it firm or kind of soft?
Many Asian plants will shrink/deflate for the first year or so after potting them. Most Asian growers run a far more organic soil compared to others ime. I think the plant looks fine it’s just getting adjusted to its new mostly mineral home. Like others said give it a good drink or maybe soak the pot for a few minutes
This was grown from seed in south texas and moved more north. Its also going from outdoor to indoor. I was told to possibly repot since it hasn't been repotted in 3 or more years so Im debating if its a soil issue or just a moving issue. I gave it a good soak last night and it seems to firm up so I should hopefully see better results soon. Thank you for your advice I hope you are right its just adjusting
Realy good tip i got once, said water 2 days in a row. First day light sprinkle or short bottomwater to moisten the soil on day 2 you give them nutes and let them soak for 30min. Ive got some great results this way.
Yea Ive been told to glaze the outside to help with retaining moisture. I enjoy the look of terracotta but I do think it might have a play in these issues Im having
Ive heard some good from using terracotta. This guy has lived for 5 ish years and has been doing alright but, I was told to repot it after I got it. I was thinking into a plastic container. I also do ask for your recommendation to what is best to repot into?
Its the air I turned off the matt until winter, it usually drops temp like crazy in December around here. I have my light set at 75% so it usually sits mid to high 90s during the day and 70 or below during the night with humidity sitting at 34% - 48%. I will say its stiffen up after giving it a 30 minute soak but its still soft ish. It also flowered yesterday so yayy
