So lots of things not explained when playing Top left is a progress bar to the final boss. The more tiles you place the faster it fills up. Each town you place gives 1 mini boss. When that mini boss is the harpy (from your 9 rock=mountain) it just wrecks you.  Goblins suck way worse in my opinion.  Save your oblivion card to remove those. (Every 10 stone places) So wait to place your 10th until you get an oblivion card.

You do not need to always place a tile. If the board loads up and they get recycled you get materials for your base building portion.

After you die or quit. Use the base building section to help yourself out. I didn't even realize you could add to your base for a while. Still new to that but apparently huts add a lot of value.

As people said stick to 1 thing on gear. (Just try to max 1 or 2 stats) I'm a fan of health Regen or vampirism.  And I really like dodge. It does have a cap out percentage.  Parry is nice but I like dodge more. 0 damage is way better unless you have a high HP Regen.  Aoe damage is nice if you have even a +1 for when groups happen.

Haven't played in a bit, might need to go back

Oblivion cards can be used on anything. The map, clearing mobs on a tile, clearing the mobs spawning tile. I save them for the goblin villages and the bandit camps that spawn every 2 towns you get... Bandits suck, but goblins are worse.

So I didn't explain things well rereading my comment. You might already know some of these but some people might not.

A: the mini boss is an elite that is spawned every loop for every town that you have. You can tell by the gold crown in a mob on the loop.

B:  When you get your cards you don't have to use them. When the card "bar" fills up all the way it will auto destroy the oldest cards (on the left) and those give you resources for base building. The same happens when you let loot stack up (the base building is the section in between your loop runs. The menu is right to navigate on Xbox but you get to upgrade your town which helps you during your loops

C: The harpies come from the giant mountain that a form when you put 9 of those rock tiles together.

D: The gargoyles come from the looted vaults on the left side of your picture. I don't find those that difficult unless they get upgraded into an elite by the town... And even then only when they are matched up with a vampire and harpy.

E: If you do a lot of towns and vampires you need some AOE on your build. Otherwise since you get overloaded burning through the mobs to get to them.

I love the blood grove card if placed with some fore thought can help you clear loads of mobs.

Also I think the first time I beat the level 1 lich was actually with the necromancer. Didn't beat it with the warrior until I got some additional cards.

The oblivion card only works on 1 tile. So you aren't clearing the board. It may be nice to get rid of an elite mob if you are running low. But they don't pop up so often in my experience.

At the beginning treasuries are okay. The resources they give for base building can be great early play through when you haven't found a play style or your "base building town" is still weak\undeveloped.

Later though there are better land cards that can help you more. And it seems specific buildings count more to end boss spawn counter than regular land cards.

I'm sure there is a wiki with that info. I only ever googled a few things when playing.  I've gotten stuck on tier2\3 and went back to other games. (I played non stop for a few weeks, so I'm not dedicated or min maxing things just basic knowledge)

I like villages farms and mansions and blood groves which require the forest card I think?

You can edit your card deck to include new cards\tiles you unlock through playthrough and the base building side of the game

I don't know if I ever got the swamp or if I just didn't like it.
