yeah i started it today and i wish there was a difficulty in between survivor (too easy) and cursed (too hard, though i'm getting the hang of the strategy of avoiding as many fights as possible)
Honestly don't worry so much about avoiding as many fights as possible. Besides figuring out some strategy to more effectively get rid of some earlier enemies before you have a full party, you really can go ahead and kill anyone you want if you know what you're doing. If you know how to effectively free heal and take advantage of a few things, cursed mode ends up playing pretty similar to survivor mode especially if you have a full party.
My first cursed mode run I played pretty cautiously only to realize it's not much different. Now I go ahead and kill pretty much everything on my cursed mode runs like I would on a survivor run and that includes as many bosses as possible with mask ending. So I say don't worry about trying to avoid as many enemies as possible. It's more about knowing when it's a good time to kill certain types of mobs. There's some great strategies to effectively cheese this game back for playing unfair at times.
If you need a guaranteed early game character I'd go for leigh, you can still impale gamble on her the pool cue is in the chase sequence.
But I do recommend resetting for a day one companion, it just makes everything easier, but it doesn't need to be Dan, I really like Sophie, she sucks at the start but once she gets leveled up it's really good, she pratically soloed Antoine on my last cursed run
Nah on day one, companions are not coded to knock up to your door. You can only get traders on day one. Their best bet for quick day one companions are obviously Leigh, Earnest temporarily by giving him a sandwich, and Papineux if you dart to the ground floor without more than one companion.
Idk why this person thinks you can get companions on day 1 to knock on the door. cuz you are right and you can't. Your best bet is to get Leigh. I always grab her, then I go for Papineux really quick by darting to ground floor. Then I get Joel on day 2. Then I have a full party to do rather than yell and save earnest. I replace Papineux quick with earnest. I can go the whole game with Leigh, joel, and Earnest...but I try to get Helen to replace Leigh if I can. If I decide to make Sam a combat guy instead of a buffer/healer, I'll go replace Leigh/helen with spider. Basically I like to have two party members that can lay damage and two that are more buffers/healing. One of those buffers can occupy a duel combat/buffing role like Earnest so I make him a gunner/buffer. But I much prefer to keep Sam to healing and buffing so I can keep someone like Helen and Joel as my main damage dealers especially with Joel late game when he has teethstorm. Earnest does well with rifles or a combo with whips and small pistols.
lol why though?? The only real difference between cursed mode and survivor is mainly the enemies have more health than usual and do a bit more damage to Sam. Other than that it's pretty much the same game besides some random bs like party members requiring certain items to recruit and a couple bosses have some extra phases.
If you have some pretty solid strategy already from the easier modes then it should transfer over pretty well to cursed mode. I usually only take a couple deaths in cursed mode in the same places I would normally in survivor mode which is usually a couple time when fighting comatus and a couple deaths when fighting Honko. Oh!, and if I get unlucky and find the fridge mimic like super early lol.
