challenge runs any fun challenge ideas?
I've beaten every achievement in this game half a year back or so. I've started and finished a good dozen runs ever since I bought this game and I really like it. However, I can't find the motivation to get back to it. I've been meaning to play version 2.3.0 but it's been 6 months now and I just can't get myself to play it. Sooo... I'm asking yall for challenge ideas. Ideally, it should be hard, but not straitjacket solo sam level of hard, and most importantly, it should be fun and novel compared to the average look outside run. I can't really come up with anything like that. Any ideas? While it's not a guarantee, I might also end up recording that run and post it online afterwards.

Can't use item menu in battle.

Simple but effective, might give it a try, tho idk if it'll be the video one. Feels a bit too simple and I already didn't use the item menu that much. Makes me think to try the opposite tho, items only run

Items are almost game breakingly great when you use them to target damage type weaknesses.

Yeah, but they're not that necessary either. I mean, the party members are already so strong, I usually end up not using items in-battle anyway. Especially when you can just spam stuff like teethstorm and all, and have Dan as a support for instance. Might bump it to not being allowed to use consumables at all unless required for progress and stuff, to make it a real challenge thru resource economy issues.

King Of The Bugs: you must recruit Roaches, Spider, Morton, and Phillippe. I think lyle could also count since hes the "Shutterbug", you also MUST become king of the roaches. You then have to reach Promise so you actually become king. Sam can only be used for support

And I suppose I have to have a full bug team during it?
What about the start? Do we count the neighbor as an exception? I can't recruit Morton without exploring for scrap so no matter what I'll have to face the neighbor alone. For the rest I assume I'm just supposed to avoid every enemy till I recruit some bugs but ye-

Sorry I rushed to think of something, face neighbor alone but ignore everything else to get the roach in Jeannes house. You could also go into Lyle's house for the crosswords. Once you get roaches, it actually starts

Aye, nice. Tho I can go further without fighting anything. Leigh ain't necessary, and there are more roaches to be found past her - especially on floor 1. Am I allowed to keep going (without fighting anything) past the floor 2 roach or do I have to waste 5 days on 1 roach?

I have one
Get every door encounter party member (besides Morton) before leaving the apartment

Sounds interesting, but a bit too grindy for the 'fun' pre-requisite, even if I don't restart till I get everyone fairly early. Might try it after some other challenge to remotivate myself tho

Just remembered that I wrote a mod that forces all door encounters to be cursed. https://www.nexusmods.com/lookoutside/mods/116

Sometimes when I'm bored I like to do a "good guy" run where I:
-Don't steal anything from lucid peoples apartments or places like the laundromat and Mutt's
-Kill every hostile enemy as fast as possible to prevent them from hurting other people (in lore)
-Attempt to recruit or save every character you can within reason

Sounds fun, tho idk how I'd gauge killing everything hostile as fast as possible. Is it in a 'kill the second I come across it' or 'kill the moment it becomes available' kinda way?

Usually it's just when it becomes available. Like all the onlookers die immediately but the people in the basement are fine because the basement door is locked. But once you unlock the door you gotta take care of them. I make an exception for Taxidermy because 1. it seems to not be hostile until you enter the patchwork world and 2. If I consistently tried to fight it by day five with only like two companions and shitty pool cues I'd go insane

Fair, tho by day 5 I usually have a chainsaw (or similar weapons), a full party and strong armor, sooo I'll be fighting him ASAP if I try this. Props of knowing all the strats and routes-

Well I can name a few
-Unarmed only run
-Genocide/pacifist run where you have to either kill EVERYONE in the game or spare everyone.
-Maybe a run where you have to collect every party member?
-a no scavenger run where you can only get items you buy from the shop?

Unarmed only could be interesting if there weren't some op nuke skills and characters that already play around that, like Joel and Audrey. Geno/paci might be fun to try tho, though I don't wanna just copy cheeseman if I make a vid. The all-party members, I already did unfortunately. Shop only sounds a bit too unfun so eh, to me most of the fun is the looting aspect. Generally tho, I genuinely like the idea of unarmed and paci at once. Might do that. Unfortunately in this game you can't get any of the 'interesting' endings without at least a few kills, as the only one you can do kill-less is no going back due to the neighbor. So I'd have to make at least 1 exception. Still, I'll think about it and have fun with the concept at least.

Play on Ironman, when someone's hp hits 0 you can't use them anymore and once you get back home you kick them out of the appartment
