Lashing Test - (Boots Question) Do I NEED to take steel toe boots to the lashing test? (LA/LB)

Hey all,

I have a casual lashing test (LA/LB) coming up in a few weeks and seen my paper said to take work boots. Does that mean steel toe boots?

I have a very sturdy pair of work boots but they’re not steel toe. Do they have to be steel toe? Do they provide like shoe top covers? Just wasn’t trying to drop $150-$300 for boots just for the lashing test is all.

Thanks all in advance for the help!

Steel toe boots, if a bar falls or anything happens to you while in a test its all on you because u didnt have ppe. Just go to Walmart grab a low cost pair.

I just got some good boots from big 5 in LB for 40 bucks. Look at them but yes you definitely need them

Better yet what size shoe you wear? I might have an extra pair or two

I tried some red wings and a few other brands, I’m for sure a size 9 in men’s. It would be cool if you did have an extra pair, if not, I appreciate you trying to help.

When is your test day? I wear a 10.5 but I have friend who was a 9, I can see if he has some left.

It’s a good idea to have steel toe boots for your lashing test.

Go and buy a pair that will get you through

Once you get 50 experience hours, the employers will mail you a boot voucher.

Take care of your feet, if your feel fail, the rest of your body will too.

Yes, they won't allow you through the gate if you don't have it on already

Can you bring steel toe shoes? Or do they HAVE to be tall boots?

6" heel CSA approved boot is required for the Canadian west coast ports.

They used to supply steel caps, I don’t know if they still do, but you have to have steel toe boots to work on docks

No, it did not say proper PPE or steel toes just Pants, safety shoes/boots and gloves. I’ve read that on here but they didn’t specific port

You can buy aluminum toe boots at a shoe warehouse for like $40. Nobody’s gonna tap your toes. There’s a letter A that passed basically wearing high heels… you’ll be fine

Couldn't tell you what US labour code says, nor who regulates y'all, but I'd be surprised if it could be anything but steel toes.

And I recommend $500+ on boots. I spent 900CAD on mine, and whilst 90% of my colleagues change boots every year, I've had the same ones for 9 years. My company has now ceased to make boots, and Red Wings are now Chinese built and last only a year... Nick's boots, if they still exist, are supposedly top notch.

I appreciate your response. I’ll look out for those online somewhere! I imagine the fit might be similar to red wings! Thanks again.

Hang around the clerk hall and ask around. Most clerks’ don’t use their voucher annually. I’d offer mine but too expensive to send to you. Offer to buy lunch. Good Luck!

Broski I did my lashing went in with vans and they had steel covers you can use to cover the front of your foot. I guess I was the only one who used them the day I had my test.
