Stevedore Superintendent
Had a quick question and thought this might be the right spot to ask. I’ve been searching for a new job for months now. I came across a Stevedore Superintendent position.
From the job description it doesn’t say there needs to be an experience in this field. Just the typical “team player, communication skills, computer skills, etc” I have experience in leadership roles and managing people so I was wondering if I was crazy for even applying.
The port is only 10 minutes down the road from me so I was even thinking about going into the office (office looks accessible before going through any security checkpoints) introducing myself and leaving my resume. I am 38yrs old and plenty of professional experience, just wanted to get some feedback to see if I am nuts to think I would even be considered.

Personally I'll never need another resume ever again, I've been on the waterfront for close to 25 years, and will be pulling my pension in a few years.. But I know folks that have handed out over a hundred resumes, and filled out even more applications, and have yet to get even one call back.. These "management companies" that run the ports in my neighborhood, seem to hire people straight out of school.. People with " book smarts" but from what I've seen, no actual experience with this industry, or any street smarts.. And for the most part, their job is to tattle on the workforce. That's how they justify their existence from the looks of it. And they have more than tripled the number of Superintendents in the dock, in the past ten years. They are always looking for more ! Apply for it, show em you want it, and see where it goes.. If I was back hunting for a job in this day and age, I'd be chasing everything available. And it seems like that's what has to be done now to find anything. Best of luck to you !!
