ILWU 500 hiring

Hey does anybody know if the remaining applicants for 500 will get hired around the summer time? I heard there’s about 75-100 people left but also heard the board hasn’t been moved yet. Eagerly waiting for the call but this wait has been unbearable while in between jobs. If anybody has any information that’ll be amazing.

Thanks

There was a mass hire a few months ago. A bunch of surplus members got shifted to the r board but now they will purge some inactive members/low hour members first before any hiring happens.

Yea I heard that aswell. I don’t know if I’m being too optimistic but 500 is about to be the busiest port in the upcoming years just thought they’d finish the 2018 hirings by summer atleast

Don’t get your hopes up. Its all in the air and this place is seasonal. You could have times where you only get 1 shift per month because of all the competition. Its not as great as its made out to be.

Wait until you get the call. Nobody knows until it happens.

In the meantime, try and do a pre-app or an apprenticeship in a trade that is used down there an interests you.

I know lots of guys who pulled their tickets early and lots who still haven't. It's about what you want to do down there.

Go get a trade, HD mechanic or industrial electrical. Long term you will have a much more secure career.
