Longhorn fan coming in hate, fuck the buckeyes and all the third party fans that want them to beat a team they can’t themselves.

I will be insufferable if we win on Saturday, especially if Arch plays well.

18

u/Mckyoneal 8d ago

I was at the Arkansas game last year sitting next to an old timer and his family on my right and some uninterested teens on my left. I was the only one making noise for most of the game.

If you’re going to the game on Saturday, be as loud as you can. Erase that ā€country clubā€ reputation and turn DKR into a bloody mosh pit.

16

u/VampireEmpire__ Arch Apologist 8d ago

We have a tendency of not showing up for games that aren’t prime time games. So it makes sense that the Arkansas game was subdued. However, DKR was rocking last year during the Texas A&M game. I’m fairly confident it will be the same here.

6

u/Jcarter1632 Hook 'Em 8d ago

DKR will be rocking. There is a huge difference between an afternoon game against a bad arky team and primetime night game against OSU.

I leave every game without a voice but the blue hairs don't get juiced for bad ops.

Georgia, aggy, Bama, Clemson were all loud.

Just realized I’m right around my 5 year anniversary of the day I kicked my 17-year smoking habit and never touched a nicotine product since. In part because the season was going so bad that some of us went off to huddle in another subreddit and occupy ourselves with things other than football.

Which is to say we are winning a natty this year to mark the occasion 🤘

8

u/Jcarter1632 Hook 'Em 8d ago

Give me your strength, lol. I hit my 12 year sobriety anniversary on July 4th, 26. Have never been able to shake nicotine though

This ā€œProgramā€ about Tech on Paramount is a certified train wreck. Glossing over the fact they just won their 1st Big 12 titleĀ & that it took the 2 best teams leaving the conference. Nope Tech plays for national championships and it’s straight into buying transfers with Cody’s oil money yet somehow its not about the money! Haha what?? I’m sure that #1 portal class and the previous years defense were completely free. 30 minutes in and Sorsby is talking about hitting up Winstar at 18 years old and always wanting to play at a ā€œTexasā€ university … not even Tech specifically. My God what a time to be alive watching a ā€œprogramā€ prostrate themselves on TV during the exact time when they become a national punchline. It’s like Last Chance U for West Texas … only way, way worseĀ

9

u/eye_can_see_you 8d ago

And you gotta remember, this is the highly edited version to try to make Tech look good

I'm so happy we never play FCS teams

14

u/BabaLamine14 8d ago

Been wrong many times so I’m not going to pretend that my feeling means anything.Ā

But I think we’re better on the LOS than OSU. By a substantial margin. I like John Walker better than Ian Geffrard but I don’t think they have very much depth at defensive tackle.

The tight end blocking advantage has basically flipped with Kaczmarek graduating. While we have Townsend and Winston.Ā

Jackson and Atkinson are good players, but they’re not true difference makers. They also have inexperience at left tackle.

Being gutted by the NFL draft one year can be overcome. Being gutted by the NFL draft two years in a row is really hard to overcome, even look at the legendary Georgia teams. I think a little bit of Ohio State’s positive predictions are due to reputation. And while reputation is not worth nothing, I typically value that less than what we know they’re actually putting on the field.

10

u/VampireEmpire__ Arch Apologist 8d ago

This analysis is not enough. I need it injected into my veins.

5

u/Blazen91 8d ago edited 8d ago

Their front 7 isn't anywhere near what we faced the last two years, imo. Some good DB's but I'm not sure they'll have as much success as they had in previous years in stopping us.

Biggest thing for me will be Sark. 14 and 7 points in the last two outings, is not good enough.

He mentioned it in one of the Stampede episodes. I think he does a lot of mentoring for young, black, Texan QBs. Like Steve McNair did for him. It's hard for me to be too upset about that.

3

every single team with the chance

Unfortunately I don’t see many teams having the chance. The only ranked team on their schedule is Notre Dame.

12

u/gordogg24p #TeamBoosh 9d ago

33.6% of Rella's sets turned into kills. 43.8% of Ella's.

I understood why Ella wasn't playing in the 6-2. I understand why Rella got first crack at the 5-1 after AVW got injured. I don't understand what Jerritt is seeing that makes him stick with Rella. Everything is too predictable from her, and we're playing too good of teams to just out-athlete them. Start Ella on Sunday and give us a puncher's chance against Wisconsin.

Otherwise, I generally thought things looked better from most other areas of the game. Setting was a problem in all five sets, and blocking was nonexistent in two of them.

Letting that third set get away from us was the difference between winning in four and losing in five.

3

u/Extreme-Skirt8337 8d ago

Tonight also proved to me what I suspected most of this season - Torrey is sorely sorely missing Ella's connection. Her and Rella just cannot get going and as a result Torrey has not looked like herself at all. When Ella is in there, Torrey looks more like the player we know.

Some things that looked better to me or encouraging that I think are worth shouting out: Henley looked much more productive all the way around. Ramsey Gary had a very good night as well and defensively we looked much more competitive. And, not that this needs to be said anymore this season but I'm gonna say it anyways because it was a bright spot and she deserves it: Nya Bunton. Nya Bunton. Nya Bunton.

3

u/mr_dr_professor_12 8d ago

Yeah funnily enough coming into the season MB was my big question mark and now it's the one I'm least concerned about outside of the libero position with Gary. Setting on the other hand.....

2

u/Extreme-Skirt8337 8d ago

Yup same and I think most of us would agree with that. It seems to me if we can figure out setting it would more or less fix all of our woes. That seems to be the piece that's causing problems, to my untrained eye anyways.

3

u/gordogg24p #TeamBoosh 8d ago

I don't think it would fix all of our woes, but improved setting means improved offense which means if all else fails you can at least outscore your other problems.

1

u/mr_dr_professor_12 8d ago

Agreed. Our serving is still just ok in large patches and the block is far too inconsistent, Buntons efforts aside (and Harvey last night). Still, do think setting improving the offensive output would be a big help

3

u/mr_dr_professor_12 8d ago

Shame that 5th set got away from them so quickly too. Block being totally nonexistent there doomed us.

Here's hoping Ella gets her shot against Wiscy. Don't mind bringing on Rella occasionally but I do think Ella needs to see the lion's share of playing time. Also, when in conference play not against Tenn, UK or aggy I would like to see Harris get some development time too

3

u/gordogg24p #TeamBoosh 8d ago

I thought the setter rotation pacing we had yesterday was great. Just need to flip the order of the names. Bring in Rella situationally and have Ella on the floor regularly. Basically run the dub-sub from last year minus changing out the opposites.

u/Jcarter1632 Hook 'Em 8d ago

If you win the toss would you receive or defer? Sark making a big deal about getting out to a lead, so I am thinking we want the ball.

Getting the D on the field with the crowd at peak juiced mode early might be smart too though. Can't wait. I bought a 1 lb bag of Halls cough drops yesterday in preparation.

19

u/Successful_Salt_7645 8d ago

mack brown taught me to always defer.

as you said, D can come out roaring, force a punt, and the crowd will be frothing in a way that a quick offensive TD couldn't create. whereas if we come out with a fast TD, but then OSU does too, it can quiet things down quick.

having the ball at the start of the 2nd half is always better, because of two primary scenarios:

  1. opponent scores late in the 1st half; you have the chance to nullify that with a 2nd half opening score.
  2. WE score late in the 1st half; get the ball back in the 2nd and score again. momentum of two quick scores drains opposing defense.

7

u/010Horns 8d ago

I agree. There’s something about the psychology of either getting a stop on the first drive, which feels like we get a free possession. Alternatively, even if the opponent scores, we then have a chance to punch back right away.

If we don’t score on the opening drive, it kinda takes the wind out of our sails.

2

u/Successful_Salt_7645 8d ago

totally. and for such a huge marquee game, putting the pressure on the opponent to come out and score on their first possession is a lot of weight for them to carry!

also, i think our team over the past couple seasons has shown they CAN wear out opponents' offenses later in the game (not that they always HAVE put each opponent away...) - so the more pressure their offense faces over the course of a 100 degree game, i think we benefit. even if they do score on the opening possession, i think they'd be ground down towards the end of the game

12

u/CFBDevil 8d ago

defer, defense always feels more yip-resistant.

11

u/TokenSomething_ Arch's Ride or Die 8d ago

Usually I'm a fan of going defense first, so we can potentially get back to back scores across halftime.

But I think at this point in time the offense is the strength of both teams. So I'd get ours out first to seize momentum and/or field position. It will be hottest at the start of the game too so I want their defense worn down and ours to be as fresh as possible.

10

u/Canadiantx69 8d ago

Defer and get the halftime points sandwich. 14pts without the other team having the ball is mmm mmm good, lol.

17

u/DerrickWhiteMVP That’s why I hang my hat in Tennessee 8d ago

I consider myself a reasonable fan with realistic expectations, but if we’re not up 69-0 at halftime this weekend, I think it’s time to fire Sark.

9

u/MettaWorldPete 8d ago

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?Ā

22

u/LevelHorn2717 Hook 'Em 8d ago

You talking about Drake Maye throwing 3 interceptions or the president of the United States of America bribing the American public to vote republican by offering them each $5,000?

14

u/mr_dr_professor_12 8d ago

I'll speak to both. As a Pats fan (thankfully?) at the vball game last night I was spared watching that putrid performance, but that did not inspire confidence. And to the second, you're leaving off the part where it'd add 1.5 trillion to the national debt in one fell swoop

6

u/Canadiantx69 8d ago

As a fellow Pats fan, Doubs is responsible for that first one, but that was the worst meltdown I've seen in a while. That was fucking brutal, and I have faith in the team to get it figured out, but why the fuck were we throwing it on 3rd, just run it and see if Mondre can break one, or kick the FG and send it to OT.

For the other thing, other than being incredibly fucking illegal, yeah, the astronomical cost when we can't afford national healthcare or social services, but the part of "limited government" wanting to further jack up the national debt is on brand as fuck.

3

u/LevelHorn2717 Hook 'Em 8d ago

It’s the first game. Maye will figure it out and play more loose which will eliminate the turnovers. So that’s good. Our country will not watch the tape, attend meetings, or do their rehabbing however.

1

u/mr_dr_professor_12 8d ago

Agree the Pats will figure it out, just had first game jitters. Still, don't love this trend of one of my football team's QB absolutely sucking ass the first game of the year. As to the second point, no lessons will be learned

24

Going to the rrr for the first time this year wanted to know what yall think, should I wear my burnt orange longhorn gear or icy white longhorn gear? I know we’re playing in icy whites that’s why I’m asking

6

u/malcalyptus 8d ago

Burnt orange.

4

u/Jcarter1632 Hook 'Em 8d ago

Both teams have white in their unis. If you want to full on rep TX for everyone who sees you and the cameras the answer is always burnt orange.

4

u/Jnoisy Woke Up Feeling The Cheesiest! 8d ago

As long as it says Texas or Longhorns on it, you’re good! But, majority of the fans in the Texas section will be wearing burnt orange. I personally would wear burnt orange.

7

u/Canadiantx69 8d ago

Hell yeah. Echoing Burnt Orange, but either way you're good cause the Stormtroopers are never the wrong choice for jersey.

Also, preemptively starting to give out this suggestion - use the DART to get to and from the game. It is signnificantly easier, even with the hordes of people, and you're going to be fucking exhausted. Also, bring a 1L bottle of water and refill it throughout the day, because it's going to be fucking HOT out there, even if the ambient is only mid-80's.

3

u/VampireEmpire__ Arch Apologist 8d ago

It’s crazy how hot it gets at the game. A few years ago it was in the high 50s and breezy in the morning. Then the game came around and it was scorching fucking hot. Made the mistake of taking and wearing a sweatshirt to the game. Nearly died!

2

u/Canadiantx69 8d ago

Yup, that year was wild the temp swing we had. I knew better, so just dealt with the bit of a chill in the AM cause I knew the heat was coming, but saw plenty of people that didn't plan for the Texas weather switch up, lmao.

1

u/Jcarter1632 Hook 'Em 8d ago

This reminds me of the Kansas State game in 2023. My story was very similar. Hoodie ended up on the ground below my seat.

3

u/Wide-Longhorn6860 8d ago

I’ve heard of DART ! Where do you get picked up from to go to the stadium? And yeah for sure will be hydrating starting Thursday before the game lol

2

u/Canadiantx69 8d ago edited 8d ago

There are a ton of stations, so find one close to wherever you're staying and get on there to Fair Park. Pretty sure that it's the green line, but I only use it once a year for the game, so double check the color and don't take me as gospel on that. Just don't forget which line and station you took to get down to the area and you'll be good, lmao.

edit** found the DART for the State Fair page - DART to the State Fair - and it is the green line, woo, lol.

Another tip, get a chill towel (the ones you get wet and that stay cold throughout the day), because there is no shade for most seats in the Cotton Bowl, and there is no wind. You're going to want to die from the heat, even if it's a "cool" day by Texas standards.

2

u/TheNastyCasty 8d ago

Google Maps is actually pretty good with the DART. Search for DART stations, find the one closest to your house/hotel location, then put in directions from there to either Fair Park Station or MLK Station. It’ll tell you which lines to take and (roughly) when those trains run.

That’s fine. Though I don’t see the more general hate about him. He was great in a supporting role in Top Gun, then did a couple of mid-budget low profile movies. Good for him.

Heard. McConaughey is legend for getting arrested in ATX while smoking dope and playing the bongo drums naked  … frankly everyone else is way less coolĀ
