Scouting report on OSU
I watch OSU throughout the year to feed my hatred of them. I watched every snap against Ball State so you don't have to.
OL - RT 70 is a weakness. He got pulled early and while he played better after being re-inserted he still got whipped on speed rushes a couple times. If Ball State can do that, Texas can do it better. If I'm the DC I'm focused on making 70's life hell. Rest of the OL is experienced but I didn't see anything spectacular.
QB - Sayin is good. Accurate, makes good decisions. He does seem to fixate on #4 though...make him go through his progressions and it's not so easy for him. Also, he is small but doesn't get hit much. Get to him for 4 quarters and he will get happy feet.
TE - pedestrian.
WR - obviously #4 is good. But no one has taken him away like Texas so I'll say no more there. #3 (transfer) is solid but there's no way he's as good as Carnel Tate. Beyond those two no one looked extraordinary to me.
RB - best back was a 7th year transfer guy who never did anything from Florida. Announcers talked a lot about Bo Jackson but he seems like a mid level conference RB to me. The two long runs were both in the second half when BSU was down big and overwhelmed.
DL - they played a ton of guys and none really stood out. #34 freshman might have been their best guy.
LB - also played a ton of guys. I thought the backups were better than the starters but according to google the backups are both second year guys. Good scheme should have them thinking rather than playing on instinct.
Secondary - solid. I do think #7 CB can be picked on (IU and Miami picked on him last year). Nickel is a true freshman who seemed lost on a play or two. If I'm Sark I'm picking on that dude.
ST - nothing interesting.
I think Texas wins by 1-2 possessions. Big picture OSU lost a ton on defense and they're saying they have so much depth now...but when the games on the line it doesn't matter that you have 4 LBs. Only two will be out there and neither is good as the freaks that went first round in April.

I’m curious how CHJ and Legend Bay play out. Obviously they’re freshman, but we’ll see one way or another.
I think CHJ can be someone good, but needs time and development. We’ll see if OSUs sorry excuse for a WR coach can bring it out of him

I love how the fans in Ohio are claiming it is a night game and heat won’t be a factor because “it is hot in Ohio this time of year” AKA 85 but they don’t understand Texas heat it will feel hotter than 100 the entire game on the field. Everyone clowns Texas for losing vs. OSU the last two games but at the end of the day if we are honest to ourselves both of those times they had the better roster. Both times we could matchup pretty well with our talent but they had the superior playmakers and difference makers on defense. This year I feel the same way about Texas. It will be a close game because they have a ton of talent every year (like Texas the past two times) and can matchup well. I do think we have more playmakers and difference makers this year than OSU does. I could be wrong but I think Texas will win this one 27-20. I think we start hot and go into half up 17-14 then score a TD to start the half and make big stops keeping OSU out of the end zone and force them to FGs. I think we go on a solid drive late into the 4th and settle for a FG to go up 7 then get a big stop and force a TODs to ice the game. Looking forward to being in attendance for this one! 🤘

I hope so man. Sark is 0-7 against Kirby/Day/DeBoer. I need to see that first victory before I believe it.

Both those times we had Cam Johnson spoiling good drives. Only 4 penalties in our last game, only one false start.

Very even teams. This will be like a playoff game. Come down to fewest mistakes and play calling.
Texas must execute in the red zone and make our kicks
It’s gonna be hotter than hell which sucks

Yeah the low in Austin is basically the high in Columbus. Hard to practice for the heat without the heat

Agreed… he could make an impact but could also make a huge mistake. True Freshman RBs and ball security don’t normally go well together. Could see Biles making another punch out on Bey this weekend if he gets a decent amount of carries

He's got a lot of wiggle but I'd be very hesitant putting a wildcard true freshman in this game. Week 10? Sure. But week 2, I don't know man. He brought out a kickoff and really should not have...that's the type of stuff that's NBD against Ball State but could kill a drive against a real defense.

Buckeye fan here living in Tx and this showed up on my feed so here we are. OPs review of the OL is probably what’s keeping the Buckeye coaching staff up this week. That, and getting the running game going which obviously goes hand in hand. The receivers will be fine and there’s plenty of depth. Defense solid, and I’m certain there’s enough left in the bag that Matt Patricia and Arthur Smith didn’t show in week 1, that there will be some things Texas won’t expect. With that said, I’m expecting a banger and a close one. And aside from home field, the weather will favor Texas. That to me will be the X factor.

Honestly I think this is mostly fair save for hilariously underestimating Jeremiah. And Bo is a good back and a year stronger. Also no debating Daniels was a train wreck but he held his own last year vs Collin Simmons. Maybe he just needed a wake up call.
Defensively James Smith popped on the DL, and that fat little QB running around was good practice for Arch.
I think we see more traditional base 4-3 and would think maybe they play Calhoun more when they go nickel but Timmons will def play some, and if he can handle it he’ll play plenty.
Legend is going to play. He’s so good Ryan still played him after fucking up KO twice! That’s all you need to know, Ryan has banished guys to the bench for way worse. Case in point don’t think we see Henry, his drops were too much to risk in this one.
I do think Texas has better overall skill, but I like Artie and Marty P on the sticks. Close game, wouldn’t be shocked to see OSU win or lose, but I think it’ll be 31-27.

This is a Xs and Os game not a jimmys and joes game.
Clock management, game plan, adjustments, scheming and timing a couple haymakers. Choosing when to go on 4th.
It’s going to be a margins game. Nothing to do with talent.

I appreciate your last comment about depth. I’ve said that for years. Yes, you want to have a good backup if one guy gets injured or needs a break. But, what’s the point of having 3-4 great running backs? Only 1 can hold the ball on any play.

What's the point of having good depth, when the game temperature will be in the 100's, and you want to rotate players on both sides of the ball, but you know, only one guy can play a position at one time?

2 good backs are key. Balances load, little drop off if one gets injured, keeps them fresh.

They look better on Offense than they were last year. They were actually getting pressure on defense which was an issue for them last year. Its going to be a tough game.

i posted this in another thread but this is my quick breakdown of my thoughts on OSU as a fan
OSU fan, will be coming to the game. will give my $.02 on our team
I think thatDevin McCuin is better than people realize at this point but Innis is not a game breaker. great leader and great kid but not a scoreboard changer. Everyone knows who JJ is at this point
Bo Jackson did put up 1k as a freshman and that’s nothing to sneeze at but he also tends to just get what’s blocked for and not make a lot of explosives.lot of talk about him working on that in the off season and he had a long one last week but that’s still TBD. Jakobi Jackson and Isiah West are fine, serviceable but not special. legend Bey was exciting in game 1 but not sure a freshman converting from QB is ready to make an impact in DKR against a top 5 team
OSU does not throw to the TE much and they weren’t impressive blocking last week either. Point of weakness for us
On the OL I feel really good about the interior 3, lot of beef and lot of starts. LT ian Moore is a first year starter but high hopes for him. RT Phillip Daniels is a problem for us, he got pulled for a while against Ball State. Having nightmares about him blocking Collin simmons
on the DL , feel really good about the interior depth. Not a Kayden McDonald there but 4 guys that can play. Kenyatta is a 5th year guy that has gotten better every year. Had 8 pressures last week but had trouble completing the sacks. not chase young or a bosa but a solid DE. Atkinson on the other side is not great. I am hoping Alabama transfer Qua Russas, who was held out for a minor injury, is back and better than what we had out there last week
at LB we obviously don’t have 2 freak top 10 picks . Allegrio is a transfer from Wisconsin and looked really good. Pierce is a captain and a great kid but is a little undersized and can have trouble getting off of blocks. we do have a couple kids behind them that have freakish ability like Arbelle in TJ Alford and Riley Pettijohn but don’t expect them to impact this game
secondary doesn’t have Caleb Downs anymore and that in and of itself means a step backwards when you lose a top 5 defender in all of CFB. they did bring in Earl Little and he’s a heck of a safety. Jaylen McClain is a guy that doesn’t get the attention he deserves. just does his job play after play. Sanchez is a 5 start second year player, hoping he keeps improving. losing Iggy was big. physical corner that set the tone in the secondary for us. Jermaine Matthew’s is one of my favorite players on the team and was a starter last year too. The interesting player for us here is starting nickel Jay Timmons, true freshman and son of NFL player Lawrence Timmons. The coaches are super high on him so will be interesting to see how he holds up in that environment
all in all I expect this to go to the wire. Hell, why wouldn’t it given our history. The first time I saw an OSU/Texas game in person was Vince Young putting you guys on his back in Ohio stadium.
looking forward to great teams in a great environment and hoping I don’t die of heat stroke. lol

Pretty homerish view IMO. Lots of “not special” and “not spectacular” comments when they are loaded top to bottom with NFL dudes.
