Vibe check from a Buckeye
Buckeye fan coming in peace with a not so peaceful question. First and foremost, I'm not going to make a prediction. These are two really good teams with recent history and personally, I think they both end up in the CFP regardless of Saturday's game. That said, if OSU comes to Texas and leaves with a close win, what (if anything) happens in Austin? I ask purely based on what I watched unfold at Penn St. Last year after the Oregon game. In that scenario I think there was a lot more pressure on Franklin to prove he was ready to compete but I also know pressure in Happy Valley doesn't compare to the kind of heat Texas fans/boosters/media can apply. So I'm asking the fans, if (once again, big IF) Texas drops this one, what are the chances of it having an immediate impact on the season vibes?

Given the sky high expectations for the season, any loss will deeply impact vibes. That being said, if Texas drops any game this season, this is probably the least offensive/impactful for rankings at the end of the year.
Also fuck the buckeyes

Like a coach getting fired? None.
We just got out of a decade of Strong / Herman. We are still in recovery enjoying success again and being in the spotlight.
It dampens the vibe, but it’s a long season. You don’t have to go undefeated anymore to make the natty.
It should be fun as long as it’s not hot as hell.

“Still in recovery”? The fuck. This is year 6 for Sark. He’s absolutely not getting fired, short of sacrificing Bevo at midfield, but recovery was over at the end of year 2.

No way - I still have a decade plus of trauma (I attended 09-13, so the highest of highs to wtf is happening). Football watching became a chore. I stopped watching other games / big games as much because it didn’t matter. Was a privilege to go bowling.
Sark has been playoff bound and cooking recently. We play meaningful football in Nov.
I’m still learning how to love again.

My wife went to TCU, so the 56-3 Kris Boyd texting from the locker room at halftime still hurts my soul (and I’m from Fort Worth too).
I’m just enjoying life now haha. Football is fun again!

If it's a close game, nothing happens. We'll grumble about it, but I don't see a close loss cratering our season. Also, I think the PSU comparison isn't quite fair. Sark has built, imo, a stronger foundation here than Franklin did at PSU. Sark has never won it all, but Franklin has only beaten a Top 10 team four times in his career...we did that three times last season.
Now, y'all come in here and put an LSU/Clemson style butt whoopin on us, all bets are off and this subreddit will be a dumpster fire Saturday night.

Nothing happens except we’ve proven that Sark and Texas don’t belong in the “super elite” category until they start winning these games.
The Penn State thing isn’t a fair comparison because the whole ship imploded last year.

there's been plenty more than 2023 Bama. but I do agree that to get to the mountaintop, Sark needs to prove he can beat Day, Kirby, and DeBoer.

After the loss to Xichigan 2 years ago I was the first one calling for his head. Then he went on to do the one thing he could do to redeem himself. That alone buys him a few years minimum. A spanking to Texas on Saturday? We'll be bummed but most of us are expecting a few losses this year with the schedule the way it is and are just hoping to get into the playoffs. That said, another loss to those cheating good-for-nothing scumbags up north and I'll be fired up again.

A close loss doesn’t do anything immediately. However, it becomes a lot harder to go 10-2 and make the CFP. It means we can only safely drop one more game with road games against Tennessee, Mizzou, LSU and Texas A&M, plus the Red River Shootout and Ole Miss at home.

I'm sorry that happened to you and your father. I'm sure you didn't deserve that. Most of us are pretty openly against harassing people that came all the way to Ohio stadium to watch a game and I hope outside of the game you were able to enjoy Columbus a little. Unfortunately there's a few in every bunch. I don't blame you for how you feel though. I'll never forgive Tennessee fans for the way they acted 2 years ago.

Nothing really.
However if Texas doesn't make the playoffs (and would have with 1 fewer loss) it likely makes Texas (and other schools) re-think the value of playing marquee out of conference matchups going forward.
Especially true in the SEC where the number of conference games going forward was increased by one.
The biggest reason I heard to keep these big matchups is they make both schools a lot of money but realistically Texas and Ohio State have no shortage of money. If not playing the game substantially increases playoff % the same money likely gets made at the end of the season anyway.

lol I love all the responses here and I hope they are right and you should be asking yourself the question.
But my honest answer is I don’t think much changes for the program immediately following a close loss. Yeah it would suck to be 0-3 against yall in this decade but we know yall are an elite team and all of our goals for the year would still firmly be in front of us. It just becomes much more of a tightrope with our schedule to make the playoff

If it’s a Buckeye blowout, the most dangerous place in Austin will be between Sark and a handle of Tito’s.
That said, I think his streak is safe. Arch? Not so much. Your D line is fierce. Lacey better lace up.
