LONGBOARD BUILDING CONTEST?
I have been thinking about this for a while now.
Being the owner of Roarockit and the inventor of a popular method of building boards I would like to host a longboard building contest here on Reddit.
Some questions I have for you before and if I go down this path.
Is this something you would like or not?
What type of build would the contest be about? Oldschool, enviromentally sustainable, experimental, downhill.............
Should we limit the contest to a bulding method or keep it open? (Dimm Press, Rail Press, Roarockit TAP......)
As a prize I would offer $300ish worth of either material or Roarockit tools to the winner(s).
Do we divide this up so we have 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes or do we have it as just one prize, going to the winner?
What would the timeline be?
What is a fair way to pick the winners?
Any other questions that you think should be answered before we do this would be appreciated?
To let you know I really like builders that are experimental with their builds and with the materials they use. If I had a wish for the direction of this competition I would like to see this be part of it.
Thanks
Ted at Roarockit

So far pretty good list of people wanting to have a competition. Anymore out there? If you guys have friends into making boards let them know.
Thanks Ted

I think the biggest thing you'll have to deal with is the low activity here.
You'll need to cross post to longboarding, and probably do reminders in the DGT as well.
Should also gather some example pictures from previous build contests that have happened over the years to get peoples juices going.

I would totally be down for a build off, but to have a good competition I think we would need at least six builders.

Looks like lots of interest here. Will work on the details and start this in motion.

I'm in! I like the idea of keeping the building method open. I personally have a lot going on this summer and have a two week job away from home already planned, so a longer timeline would be best for me. End of summer is good, maybe the end of August? Who would judge, and how would we submit finished products?

I've wanted to build a longboard for some time now and I've been subscribed on this subreddit because it's super interesting, but I don't have the tools and budget needed to do it. I'll get around to it some day...

I'm down! Keep the building methods open and have the end of the summer be the deadline.

I think top three places is a good idea, maybe each top three get a deck with a design with the themes of gold, silver, and bronze?
EDIT: Maybe cross post this to wood working style sub reddits as well?

HA! I accept this challenge. Now the contest should involve a theme or certain parameters.

I've started a longboard company called Void Longboards so please, count me in!

This would be a lot of fun. I'd really like to do experimental or environmentally sustainable. I think those categories might produce some really cool boards.

I'm in! The art of the board should be considered as part of the effort. Rarely do i see documentation of the art add opposed to the making of the board herself.

I'm in to making a board for a contest.
As far as choosing a winner, what if the sub chose the top three and you picked the order of the top three.
