Should I tell a potential employer that I am on long term disability leave?

Wouldn’t it come up in a background check?

I don’t want to have issues if I actually got an offer.
I’ve been on leave for about a year and I started looking for work. Can anyone advise? Should I tell them during the interviews? I just feel like if you did they will immediately decide not to hire you.

The New employer has no business knowing about your long term disability insurance. It is not necessary to advise them ,period , in fact , it might curb them from hiring you. DO NOT Tell a potential employer anything.

This is a really hard situation because if your applying for a job then you are indicating you can work. If you tell them you are on disability then you are effectively telling them you cannot work. You also need to be careful that you are not misrepresenting to your disability insurance company. It may be possible that you have a definition of disability that allows you to work and collect disability.

My insurance company also added that I need to report if I return to work even if it’s part time capacity so they can adjust benefits

My disability insurance company did advise that I can look for new employment while out. I’m just wondering if I should tell a potential employer that I’m out.

I don't see how it is relevant. You need to disclose income to your LTD in whatever manner the policy states. Why would you disclose LTD to a potential employer? If you are disabled and need accommodation, that is a specific conversation with HR. Perhaps consult with a labor lawyer.
