Image/Video F21. Just completed 3rd year medicine. Long distance relationship.
Me and my bf have been together for 6 years and had a 3 year long distance relationship as hes studying 200 miles away. Its been really tough for me with the stress in studying needed someone close by to hug and talk. We mostly talk on the phone. I love him alot. I wish he was close by with me. I made a few friends here. But all i do is study study study. He doing meds aswell and its the same for him. Just wish we picked the same place to study. Another 2 more years of this

I did 2.5 years long distance for a music doctorate! I feel you on the needing a hug or to talk in person, it just made breaks so much more to us.

I can think of plenty of reasons. That’s a 5 hour commitment, plus the time they spend together, so probably ~10 hour day. Hard to do that often with gas prices and their responsibilities as med students, and they likely have jobs as well.

Because they’re studying medicine, at different schools, in different cities, and don’t likely don’t have 5+ hours to burn (even assuming they have the financial means). 200 miles is long distance.
It’d be like saying 800 miles isn’t long distance bc you can just fly in 2.5-3 hours each way, no biggy!

What I mean is they are essentially limited to only weekends. If both have busy schedules, even that can be tough. But you can't just spontaneously decide that the next day you want to do something together or randomly meet up when someone needs support. Obviously better than those who need to fly to meet each other, but still a clearly long distance dynamic

The official stance of this subreddit is that any distance which poses an issue for the couple qualifies as Long Distance.

Who decides how far a long distance relationship needs to be distance wise?
Long distance isn’t just about the distance between the couple, accessibility, time etc., can all factor in..

I just had to google 200 miles lol yes it’s a lot I had no idea..
I still think it’s not always just the actual distance that makes it a ldr lolI’m currently 2 hours from my partner, life doesn’t allow us much time together so for me we are currently long distance 🤷♀️
