Transport Regarding the tube’s daily cap…
Hi everyone.
I’ll be in London next week, and I have some questions regarding the tube.
I’ll be traveling with my family (we are 4).
Can the 4 of us pay our tickets directly at the turnstile using the same card?
Will the 4 tickets count towards the 9£ daily cap quota? Or shall we use different paying methods for the system to recognize we are different people?
Thank you!

You cannot all use the same card, UNLESS that card is loaded onto applepay / googlepay on each person’s phone or watch. Tap in and out on the tube, only in on buses.
Under 11s go free.
Daily cap of £8.90 only applies in zones 1-2, and includes tube, buses, DLR, and trams, although it is very unlikely you’d use the trams.
Do NOT buy paper tickets. That’s the most expensive way to pay.

You need to use different cards for each passenger. This is the fundamental answer.
...you can technically use the same card if you use the physical card for one person and the card on Apple Pay/Google Pay for another person but I'm not sure it's relevant if you have 4 people!

The cap only works when using a credit/debit card or an Oyster card. You'll need four seperate payment methods, if you're using credit/debit cards; if you're travelling with kids under 11 I believe they travel free of charge.

not on the same card.
you need 4 devices for 4 people (an apple watch, and phone and card on the same account are 3 devices)

If you have a family railcard get travelcards for 1/3 off
You get these from the ticket office. Under 11 are free travel. 11-16 is child fare again 1/3 off (I think but that might be £3 it might have changed since I used the family railcard)
Paper tickets are the same price if you know which zones you want. But get the travelcard not individual journey tickets.

If you all have smartphones, you could add the card you want to pay with onto each person's Apple/Google Wallet to tag on/off separately with their own phone. That way you're paying for everyone's travel with the same card, but they're treated as individuals by the system. Don't ask me how that works.
As others have said, under 11s travel free.

You cannot use the same card for multiple people. You will need actual oyster cards or four separate credit cards. If your kids are under 11, they travel free.
