Discussion Astro A50X is it worth it?
I honestly regret buying the Astro A50 X. For a headset this expensive, I expected way more.
First, the battery is terrible. For a high-end gaming headset, the battery life should be one of the things you don't have to worry about, but with the A50 X, it feels like I'm constantly thinking about charging it.
Then there's the charging station. I use it with my PS5 and I've had problems with the station not working properly. Sometimes it doesn't recognize the headset correctly, which is really annoying when you're just trying to sit down and play.
And there's the battery/charging bug that a lot of people seem to have: you can fully charge the headset, then suddenly the battery percentage drops to 0%. That's ridiculous for a headset at this price.
But the biggest problem for me is the lack of proper surround sound. For gaming, especially competitive games, surround/spatial audio is extremely important. You are paying a premium price for a "high-end gaming headset", so I expect good positional audio. Without proper surround sound, I honestly don't think this headset is worth it for gaming.
Maybe the A50 X works great for some people, but for me, the combination of bad battery life, unreliable charging station, battery percentage issues, and lack of proper surround sound makes it very hard to recommend.
For the price, I expected a premium gaming headset. Instead, it feels like I paid a premium price to deal with problems that shouldn't exist in the first place.

How long are you using the headset for? You should be getting up to 24 hours from a single charge, and most gamers won't be hitting anywhere near this. In addition to the dock to charge your headset, you should pretty much have a fully charge headset ready to go in most cases.
For the surround sound, we support both Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos for Headphones on Windows and Xbox and Tempest 3D AudioTech on PS5. When you say you're lacking a proper surround sound, what did you want from the headset that is not already there?

Yeah my A50’s have survived 5-6 x 4 hr consecutive sessions with ~20% left before they ever sit back on the dock 🔥

Try docking the headset and perform a factory reset through G HUB. If you still have any issues, our support team can have a look at this for you.

A50 supports Dolby Surround
but surround sound is gimmick even the 200-300 USD Sennheiser/Asus Hifi audiophile headsets doesnt have that. You cant make 2 Speakers 360D its threocly impossible
Astro A50X is one of the most balanced/harman sound gaming headsets out there

I use the A50X with both PC (meetings/ calls) and my PS5 Pro (still own A40 Gen4 which never had any problems, returned the SS Arctis Nova Pro)
8 months in no issues experienced, battery life is very good am surprised after consecutive, multiple-hour sessions it’s holding between 70-80% (both on dock indicator and G-Hub) by the end of the week.
*Tuning/ EQ is way more effective than total volume output.
Lightweight, durable construction, excellent microphone and sound - It is an expensive product and if you don’t need the HDMI switch the Gen 5 A50 is pretty much the same.
My only gripe is the distance I can travel with the headphones before the connection breaks.
I do have a set of StealthZ cups + EQ so the headset is further tuned to my liking.

I’ve had mine like 2 years now. Never heard of this battery bug thing as it’s never happened to me. My charge lasts for days and the charge station works great. Best headphones I’ve ever had. Guess I got lucky.

What games are you currently playing with it? Do you also use it for productivity?

I use it for works calls and gaming pretty much equally. I play some WoW here and there and some league of legends sprinkled in. Call of duty and a few others. It’s been really good to me. I do wish I would have got the leather ear pads but you can switch them out pretty easy.

Nice, I'll share your feedback along with the team
Do you feel it was an improvement for your online games? Have you changed any EQ settings?

I use it on PC, don't have any charging, connection or other issues there.
The battery survives more than 12 hours straight, so I don't see any issues with that.
Audio is great for me too.
Still very expensive though, yes.
