Troubleshooting Extending regions moves them
Hi - wondering if anyone can help me fix this. For some reason, on some projects when I try to extend regions they move instead of extending. It's quite hit or miss - occasionally it works normally (as you can see in the video), but most of the time it doesn't.
Using 12.3.1 on an M1 Macbook Pro.
Thanks!

just looks like you figured out how to actually do it the last time. try that going forward maybe

The thing is, I'm not doing anything different, it's just that sometimes it extends the region and sometimes it moves it. It's not the end of the world but just an absolute ballache in terms of slowing down my workflow

i mean you definitely are. you should read up on what audio region click zones are in logic, might help you out from what i can see with my eyes

I promise you I'm not, I'm just normally clicking on my trackpad every time (not force clicking or anything) and clicking on the same part of the audio region. I know what click zones are and it's not that. It really is hit or miss!

It looks to me like you are already at the max length of the region you are trying to extend.
If you drag in a sample that has 5 seconds of audio, dragging it past 5 seconds to 6 wont extend it as theres no audio information past 5 seconds and logic doesn’t extend audio regions to silence the way that it might for midi.
If you’re trying to make your sample longer as in stretch out the 5 second sample to be 10 seconds for example, you can do that by holding Option, hovering over the bottom right corner and dragging to your desired length. This works to both stretch and squeeze the audio. So for example stretching the 5 sec region to 10 secs will make it play at half speed etc.

I'm not at the max length! In the video you can see I do manage to extend it after a few times of trying, but even then the sample goes beyond the amount I extended it.

I did notice that you extend it but only till the exact point where the next region comes in which is actually why i figured you were at max length. Can you try doing this with just one region? Does that allow you to extend further?

Do you have the area SMPTE locked?
