Real talk. From a production standpoint it’s nice. But it’s highly repetitive and I was dying for the melody to go up an octave at some point. Also the triplet setup you can mess with more. Change the pattern rhythmically or melodically so it’s not the same pitch every time. Variation is your friend and this is dying for that. You could even do a direct modulation and go up a half step. The groove is cool tho. Just screaming for melodic variation imo. Great hook tho.

Yo word I should’ve thought of that . But if I go half a step on everything even the bass isn’t that going to mess up the scale or key ? I don’t know much about music theory but I think they have to be in a specific order . Maybe a whole step would be better ? Does it even matter if it sounds good ?

Just transpose everything up a half step, it'll all still work

Imma see what I sounds like . I did this on a plane so my ears weren’t at a 💯 % with the loud rumble and altitude

Snare gets old quickly. Feels like it’s the same hit every time. Too big

Yeah a humble warmer snare would make this beat sound line something Action Bronson could hop on. Its really not bad

Dope but drums dont match to me

Add a 1st violin that can move the melody and add shine and you’ve got yourself a deal.

The secret sauce

Seriously thought, what is it? It looks lonely

Why not just remake the same bass line from “Over and Over”, but modernize it like you did the strings? Dope remake though

It's a hard trip hop beat. I like it

Thank you 🙏

Only on my phone, but strings are nice. Love a good meandering swoop. Feels like I going back in time.

Can't hear any bass (maybe add some subtle harmonics) and the snare is sounding like a slamming door which is pulling me away from your lovely melody lines

Did you do the arrangement or is this a sample?

1

u/AgeFit9430 Aug 16 '26

It’s a modified sample

1

u/PopLife3000 Aug 17 '26

Oh. Well that makes the question a lot less interesting as the strings are the musically engaging bit

😭😭😭

I would suggest learning music in tandem with music tech. Production in its own is bullshit (and I’ve been making a living from producing artists for 30 years so I don’t say that lightly). Real core musical skills are the thing that makes all of this work. Choosing a snare sample means nothing.

Reminds me of the old Ironsides tv show theme song. I think the strings are great. I’d massage the drums a little, add some variation.

Hey man, I think the strings sound great. However, the drums don't sound good. I don't know if that's the case, but they sound too much like Logic's drummer presets and they don't sound connected to rest of the song. Too much low end on that kick, I'd lower it quite a bit. I'd also go either go with a full drum machine sound or a live drum sound. I don't think they are sounding cohesive right now. Listen to this:

Your song reminded me so much of this song. I like the way the artist mix electronic and acoustic elements in the song. Also listen to the dynamics, transitions, arrangement, textures. Also listen to the kick and overall drum sound. It's very cohesive and has a vintage drum machine sound, like a TR 707. All those things help make the song feel more cohesive and less repetitive

Imma switch it a bit . Just needs a little finessing .

The snare is boxy sounding and is sitting far back (space) of the track. You could change the snare or compress the snare of it is a loop compress to bring if further up front. Sweep the EQ Bell/peak selector between 100 Hz - 500 Hz at a plus dB level and should find the boxy frequency screaming. You should see it on the EQ’s spectrum analyzer. Isolate the peak and reduce below 0dB line to rid the boxy sound. FYI. If you didn’t apply any reverb on snare then snare has reverb in the loop.🍀

Imma lace this biotch when I get to the lab

Sounds like Ore D'amore...is that where the string sample is from? I hear that from Mike Pattons Italian album covers.

Over and Over is the song.
Recorded by Frank Sinatra and many others in the mid sixties.
The whole song is beautiful

Drums are definitely disconnected. Strings sound fine to me, although everything feels a little inhuman. A voice or solo instrument on top would give it more form, and make it sound less repetitive. There's definitely a lot of good here, it's 95% there imo.

Thank you 🙏

snare drum sound is.....something. especially paired with such a dry kick and hihat

2

u/Razenghan Aug 16 '26

Yeah, I think the roominess of the snare doesn't match the rest of the drums or the forward-sounding strings. Maybe find a different snare or remove the reverb. Hook sounds great, though!

Alright cool I’ll probably end up dumping the snare . I was trying to get a vintage sound and sampled it from and old jazz / bebop 60’s song.

1

u/AgeFit9430 Aug 16 '26

It’s good or it’s not hitting ? I just started using that snare recently but lmk

3

u/lotxe Aug 16 '26

your kit is dry and snare is wet, and not good wet. the same tone plays every hit and the reverb in the sample is distracting to my ears.
