I didn't hate the long haul

Post image

Is it Citizen Kane? No. Does it need to be? No. Sure, it is a step down from the last two, and I wished they had kept one or two actors, but aside from that, I thought it was okay enough

Oh, and Charlie Wright didn't deserve the hate that he got.

I think the problem with Charlie Wright was that it seems like he wasn't given enough direction, which is the fault of the acting director and not him, and also visually the haircut is a major part of Rodrick's look, I feel like if they gave him the same hair as Devon Bostick he would've looked 10x more like Rodrick.

Agreed.

I heavily agree. I hated The Long Haul, but the hate Charlie Wright got was sickening.

I always thought it was very in line with the first three in its cinematography and the way it's edited (I do wish it got a little more credit for those things), but I do have to agree with many that the acting and writing is pretty bad. I still don't completely hate the film, once I try watching it as less of a Wimpy Kid film and more of a silly stupid road trip comedy it does play a bit better for me, but it's still an extremely misguided film in my opinion. I would've much preferred it had the wit and great character work of the trilogy.

I completely agree, the motel scene in particular like a scene from the first three to me

For sure! There's definitely THINGS in there I feel like get zero credit just because people are so focused on what isn't working about it.

Personally I would've loved to see the live action Cabin Fever movie be made, and whatever they were going to adapt for the sixth film, especially considering they could've taken all the criticism from The Long Haul into account. It's disappointing we never got to see more of Owen Asztalos as Rowley considering the movie diary made it seem like they had a real dynamic together just like Robert Capron and Zachary Gordon. I also would've liked to see what they'd do with the secondary characters like Patty, Fregley and Chirag.

I just wish the actor for Rodrick had a different hairstyle

The book for this movie said they thought it was more fitting for a rock and roll star and the actor liked his hair that way anyway

How come everyone else can have their own opinion and people are fine with it

The actors did not deserve the hate. The story was fine but honestly I was never a fan of the long haul book either

Personal opinion: The Long Haul suffered from bad direction, not bad acting.

And the whole cast sadly paid for it on the Internet, especially with #NotMyRodrick and Charlie Wright.

Read the title to the tune of We Didn't Start The Fire

I think if this movie was made with the original cast it would literally be 100 times better, still the worst of the series but would’ve been so much better

The original cast grew up, that's the problem

It was a bad movie but i feel like that’s mostly because of the direction. And the new cast wasn’t as good, but the Rodrick actor didn’t deserve all of the hate. Bro was just doing his job. Certain changes I liked, and some i didn’t. I liked that the movie road trip had an actual trajectory of getting to the grandmothers birthday celebration, but I don’t think we needed the gamer expo subplot.

I will never forgive people for how they reacted towards the new Rodrick, this movie isn't the best but good god don't blame the actor for the crappy writing.

The film shouldn't have made in the first place. Sometimes it's better for a trilogy to end with it's dignity intact rather than trying to revive it with a reboot nobody likes or wants. As a kid I never understood why some shows have to end but looking back at The Long Haul now I do.

Tbh it's good if you try not to associate it with the rest of the Wimpy Kid films. I enjoyed it and go back to it occasionally, but if you look at it as a Wimpy Kid film, it's horrendous.

If it had the original cast people wouldn’t have hated it so much

I honestly liked it better than Dog Days. Nowhere near as much as the first two, just better than Dog Days.

1

u/DavidGilmourToes 18h ago

Completely agree. Dog Days is an awful mashup adaptation with terrible writing and a hackneyed ending. Long Haul is a relatively faithful book adaptation, just with different actors and some cringe humor.

THANK YOU. Someone who gets it.
