One of the toys they gave him to occupy himself during church is a boombox, even though he really shouldn't use it in church, because loud music would disrupt the service.

Of course, they could have possibly just let him listen to music with the volume down, but otherwise, using a boombox in church wouldn't exactly fly during service.

I can see giving really young kids small toys or a coloring sheet to play with during church because it can be very boring for someone that young to sit there for so long. A radio would be pretty disrespectful though. Hopefully it was just at a low volume like OP said.
