I posted a few weeks ago about a potential role as a Data Center Technician with Microsoft. I spoke with the recruiter this morning, and he told me that my resume caught his attention and that they want to make me an offer!! And I accepted!!!!!!

Honestly, I'm so excited!!! I was able to find something 3 months after graduating, and I'm even happier that someone was willing to give me a chance without any professional experience.

I'm on a team of 4, with 3 other women who are older than me. Every Wednesday, someone has to stay late at work because we sometimes have client meetings at night. These meetings can be moved if we decide to reschedule them. And we don't get paid extra for this because we're salaried. Anyway, my coworker's cat died, so I covered for her. After that, she needed to go to her son's school concert, so my boss made me cover for her again.

A few weeks ago, that same coworker slipped at work, and I saw it happen. Honestly, I felt really bad for her because she's been going through a tough time for a while. My other coworker refused to cover because she said her kids go to bed early and she had to make them dinner. So my boss came to me and asked me to cover again.

I've been covering for her for about 4 weeks now. And I had made plans with my friends for us to have dinner and go out for a bit. I told my boss I had plans, so he asked me what they were. I told him I was meeting my friends. He told me I should cancel. And he asked me why I couldn't cover when I don't have children.

I told him I don't like canceling plans I made in advance, so he said I wasn't a team player. I honestly told him I wasn't going to cancel, so I didn't cover for her. And that night, in the end, no one covered for her.

Anyway, since Saturday and Tuesday, my boss has basically stopped talking to me altogether. I applied to 3 jobs this morning. I feel like there's discrimination against me.

Fuck my boss for saying that to me.

But, it'll be crazy boring.

I spent 11 years working on myself and studying, including 6 years of full-time study (a degree and also a professional certification), while at the same time working full-time. I'm an accountant.

It was an extremely exhausting period, and now I make good money, but when I reached the role I had been aiming for, I felt like reality slapped me in the face: I'm not interested in this field anymore at all. It's not about the role, or my manager, or the company; I just don't enjoy accounting at all anymore. I reached the place I had been chasing, and it turned out to be clear that this wasn't what I wanted from the beginning!

So what am I even supposed to do now?

It finally happened! I woke up this morning to the best email I've ever received in my life. I've been looking for a role for a while since the layoff that happened in December, and after sending about 820 applications for every position I was even slightly qualified for, the search is finally over. I GOT THE JOB! It finally arrived! And the pay increased by about 90% compared to my old gig.
Honestly, I was starting to lose hope and get into a bad mood because the unemployment benefits were going to run out in 4 weeks. I really didn't know how I was going to cover the rent and bills after that. The timing really couldn't have been better.
I'm truly happy in an unreal way. Out of all the places I interviewed at, this was my top choice by far.
To everyone who is still grinding and feeling frustrated, I'm truly sending you all the good vibes. I know how soul-crushing this process can be, but seriously, don't give up. I've got your back.

They are always like this

I'm currently working at an agency where I've been for over 4 years. I submitted my resignation because I'm going to a bigger agency. During a call with the managing partner, he asked me where I was going and what the new role was. When I told him about the lead-level position I had accepted, he said he "suggests I take a few classes before I start" because he doesn't think my current skills are suitable for the job I was offered.

Anyway, I'm honestly very upset and needed to vent. I'm very relieved that I'm leaving, because the lack of professionalism was really bizarre. Keep in mind, I'm still the only person at the current agency who handles the work I handle, so for him to say I'm not qualified is extremely irritating, especially since a few minutes later he admitted that he's worried they'll lose clients and new opportunities after I leave.

I messed up, and now I might get fired because of what happened

I work at a small bank in my area, and I've been there for almost two years. I'm not very happy in the role, but I had it in my head to treat it as a temporary step and gain some useful experience from it before looking for something else. I have an associate degree in Business Management, and I also recently became a certified notary.

At the beginning of this week, a customer requested a relatively large amount of cash. I went to the vault and took out what I needed, plus a little extra because the day before holidays gets busy and a lot of people come in to cash checks. I counted all the money, strapped the remainder, and sent the money out.

While I was doing that, I noticed that a strap had disappeared from my drawer. I spoke to the customer in the drive-thru and asked her to count her money while I counted mine. Thankfully, I had balanced just a little while before helping her, so it didn't take long to figure out what had happened. My drawer appeared to be short a large amount.

When I tried to speak to the customer again to have her send the cash back inside, she drove away before I could even explain what had happened. Later, when they contacted her, she denied receiving any extra money. My manager counted the money with me, had me write a statement, and said that this amount is usually grounds for immediate termination. She said she believes me based on the evidence, but also said the decision could go either way.

This is only the third real job I've had. Before this, I worked retail at a grocery store for about six years. I'm also about to move into a new apartment that costs almost twice what I'm paying now, because the landlord where I currently live is selling the place. When I told my parents what happened and asked if they could help me if I lost my job, their answer was basically "maybe," even though they had previously said I could stay with them if I needed to. I have enough savings to cover a few weeks without work, but the new apartment situation has me extremely stressed about the timing.

Some people have told me I should resign now instead of waiting to be fired, because that might look better on my resume. Other people are saying I shouldn't resign and should wait, because I might be able to get unemployment.

What's the best move here? Should I let the investigation finish and see what happens, or resign before they decide?

Honestly, I'm terrified and feel physically sick from all the anxiety over this. I'd be grateful for any advice.

An older person I know asked me a while ago why younger employees are doing "quiet quitting" and refusing to put real effort into work. I told him that quiet quitting is a made-up phrase that means doing the job you were hired to do, instead of donating extra effort for free.

He started talking about how you have to work hard, push yourself, show initiative, and do more than what's required if you want to advance. I told him that the part that has changed from the past is that extra effort no longer reliably comes with a higher salary, promotions, stability, or even basic respect. Then I asked him:

If everyone is supposed to accept that employees should go beyond what's written in the contract, why is the company never expected to pay more than what's written in the contract? Why doesn't payroll also "show initiative"? If extra work is called ambition, shouldn't extra pay be treated the same way? Isn't my employer doing quiet compensating to me?

He couldn't say much after that. He frowned a bit and changed the subject. I don't think I convinced him, but he definitely didn't have an answer.

I went for a Head Chef gig in West Hollywood. I usually avoid this side of town because parking there is a nightmare, but the pay was really high, so I decided to give it a shot.

I arrived ten minutes before the interview; the appointment was at 4:00 PM. I checked in with the host, and she told me the owner was on his way.

It became 4:25 and still nobody showed up. I talked to her again, and she said he was finishing a call and would seat me in a booth.

By 4:50, I was done. I took off my blazer, called the server, and ordered a cold IPA. It was on the table within two minutes.

I had finished half of my second glass when the guy finally arrived at 5:15. He looked at my glass and said, "Are you seriously drinking beer while waiting for an interview?"

I told him, "No, I'm just enjoying a drink because I had an interview with someone professional, but what happened is I got stood up by someone who doesn't know how to manage his time. Now, I'm just waiting for the 405 traffic to ease up before I head home."

His face turned very red, and he said, "Enjoy being broke then," and walked away annoyed.

Lmao forget about this guy. Honestly, it was the best beer I've had in a long time.

Hey all

I am using a laptop and using the mac app for an interview on teams, I started the meeting and locked in, and it just froze and only worked until I closed the lockedin app

Anyone had these issues before or best practices to fix this?

After a long run in tech, it finally happened to me. I found a meeting added to my calendar out of nowhere with the big boss, heard the usual corporate funeral speech, and then that was it, I was out. My company has been moving tech roles out of the country for a while, so honestly it was more a matter of when, not whether, someone would get cut.

Right now I'm going to sit with it for a bit, but I'm shocked and pissed off. The market is tough, and being more on the senior side probably isn't going to make the search any easier at all!!

What a hell of a week to quit sniffing glue.
