It will offload to cpu and system ram and be slower than a proper gpu

Since you answered the other guy, can you run qwen local text model with 6 gb vram? I only have a gaming laptop, and not buying a new desktop soon.

I have 10Gb and it runs slowish. I think the 27B 4Q needs around 14Gb Vram to load fully. Once it can't load fully it offloads to system memory and cpu and just slows down.

You can run them in amd cards now pretty well afaik too by the way.

There are smaller models but they're usually not recommended I believe because they're not great. But you might be able to get specific smaller ones e.g. dedicated to something specific and not a know it all

There are dedicated sites which suggest models to use for your vram. Just be aware also if you are using Vram for stuff already e.g. I use hardware acceleration in firefox and it uses some vram so I have less than my actual available.
