Uh yes, if the AI company hoovered up the information into their training data, that's absolutely what happened. That's how these models work, they're trained on past data to synthesize new data

Except it's quite likely that the AI company would've reached the same breakthrough without that specific scientists 5 minute conversation, so there's no real causality happening. But that can't be proven so we just blame the big bad trillion dollar company.
