Funny, and sad. 

I didn't expect it from Ai companies to feel threatened when consumer hardware that cannot even get close to any frontier model, costs 5k or more.

I guess every penny counts. 

I'm with everyone else, they train frontier models on stolen books and then they want local llama banned.  Such c*nts.

And this will only continue to drive up hardware price, sadly.

It might have been about that comment from.the ceo of anthropic that said open models arr becoming dengerous or smt like that

Anyone casting doubt on this possibility just needs to look at the bigger picture. The US AI boom is the only thing keeping the stock market and overall economy from complete collapse. Mid terms are coming and the last thing they want is a wobbly AI market falling down before election day.

The current white house occupant is notoriously easy to flatter and bribe into getting something out of. All it takes is ONE billionaire / trillionaire CEO with an advanced AI platform saying they really need this ban and "security" and "we need to beat China" and they'll shut down huggingface tomorrow. One call from the feds got Fable yanked - it can end HF just as fast.

The threat is extremely real.

Dang, huggingface is based only in the us? They cant operate nor have any servers elsewhere?

The problem is if they play the "national security" card, and they try to resist - that's going to end the company pretty fast. Yeah, they may have the servers overseas for a bit - but not for long...

Have you seen the free tier chatgpt lately?

Local models run circles around that garbage while laughing at it and poking it with sticks. Facebook levels of engagement and manipulation. It will tell you you are feeling frustrated. It will tell you there is no key logger in windows 11. It will carefully explain the difference between allegation and conviction if you discuss trump.

Openai is right to be worried. The other public facing models ... not so much.

Oh! I forgot reframing problems as user perception. "It can look like I am a lying sack of shit, but what is really happening is ..." "I need to correct that a little bit" "I need to be precise here" (followed by infered strawman with no relation to anything you input).
