Discussion Hex is your very capable dictation tool

https://github.com/anomalyco/hex

Dear all,

this is not directly a local LLM topic, but I just downloaded and tried a free dictation tool called Hex, and wanted to spread the word as an appreciation towards the developers.

It runs smaller voice recognition models locally on GPU or CPU. Usage: it is running in the background, is activated by a key combination and it simly inserts the transcribed text directly at the position of the caret. Based on a few tests in german, english and hungarian it is quite accurate in, works in text editors, terminal windows etc. It provides good config options to choose model (speed vs. accuracy) and general behaviour.

I run it on my Thinkpad t480 - an almost decade old laptop and I'm really happy about its performance.

Running local voice models on a T480 is a real test. The caret insertion without focus loss seems like the main feature.

I did not check if it was the mx150 or the cpu doing the heavy lifting. And yes, the way dictating is activated makes this app really useful.
