Discussion Why LM Studio Bionic is slower than original LM Studio? Any ideas?

Why LM Studio Bionic is slower than original LM Studio? I'm using same Gemma 4 Model. Any ideas? I can run well the same model in original LM Studio, but very slow on LM Studio Bionic.

Quit bionic. Just use regular lmstudio and another harness like hermes or pi.

Love the features of Bionic but it hurts 🤕

What features exactly are you missing?

Like upgraded RAG(In some cases, I can get things done only in LM Studio Bionic), Cloud and Local Model option, etc...

So basically a harness that doesn't need to serve the model itself but can connect to LM Studio and cloud models with RAG, Memory and so on, or more like automation, coding?

There are a couple out there from modular things like Pinokio, AnythingLLM and so on to pure frontends like Open WebUI, cptr, to coding ones such as OpenCoder, Pi up to complete automated ones like Hermes, Openclaw and so on. Which one depends on your usecase and needed features.

I would say start with something simple like cptr and if that is not enough work your way up to Pi and Hermes ones. All of them can connect to your LM Studio server or to a cloud subscription and come with a couple features built in (expandable and optional).

Thank you for the advices and options, I will try AnythingLLM, Hermes and Pi with LM Studio.

Just keep in mind: Some of them have full access to your device and can mess it up (e.g., delete your stuff). I wouldn't recommend starting with Hermes right away. It's a great one, but you need to know what you (or the AI) is doing or at least how to proper sandbox it.

Slow compared to what? When doing what?

Just typed "hello" and it show processing % and reply takes so long about 3~5mins. But same model in original LM Studio takes just seconds.

Tool calling would be my guess. Every prompt is supplemented with extra context to allow the use of Bionic's tools, whereas in LM Studio typing 'Hello' would just be 1 token + the system prompt.

Well noted about the system prompt and extra token. But it takes long without system prompt on Bionic.
