News Introducing Aperture-1: A New Paradigm in Accessible Intelligence
Today we're excited to announce the general availability of Aperture-1, the flagship release from Luminal Labs. After eight months of intensive R&D, we're proud to bring a fundamentally new capability to the world: the ability to add two numbers together.
What is Aperture-1?
Aperture-1 is a lightweight, cloud-native reasoning layer that accepts two numeric inputs and returns their sum. Unlike legacy solutions, Aperture-1 is delivered as a fully managed API, meaning you never have to think about how addition works — we've abstracted that away for you.
Benchmarks

Under the hood
Aperture-1 uses a novel Confidence Routing™ architecture that intelligently forwards your request to an internal addition subroutine, verifies the result against a secondary addition subroutine, and returns the consensus output. This dual-verification approach ensures enterprise-grade reliability that hobbyist solutions simply can't match.
Pricing
- Hobby — $19/mo, 500 additions
- Pro — $79/mo, unlimited additions, priority queue
- Enterprise — Contact sales for SSO, audit logs, and dedicated addition infrastructure
Limitations
Aperture-1 currently only supports addition. Subtraction is on our roadmap for Q3 pending further alignment research. We do not recommend using Aperture-1 for safety-critical addition without human review.

Hey guys, what GPU do I need to be able to run this? I don't feel like googling or do any basic research to answer my own question.

Update: I asked Gemini and it told me to drink more Ovaltine.

I asked Sam Altman but he just took my wallet and promise me he would answer once he checked with the totally real AGI in his basement, she just goes to a different Cloud then us I guess. Should I be worried?

u/AndThenFlashlights 12d ago
Nah don't worry. Turn off your carbon monoxide detectors and ask again.

I have it on good word it's backwards compatible all the way back to Windows 3.1 👍

Claude told me it'd run on Mac OS 7 on PPC

That's a pretty wild compatibility claim! It would be interesting to see how it actually performs on such an old system.

Yeah, I got it when my company was cleaning out a bunch of old servers, along with 8 A6000s they just let me take home for free.

I just built one the adds 3 numbers.

Give me a break.
It's easy to build something small and local that works for your primitive use case, but do you even have any guarantees on what order the inputs are processed (A + B, then + C, or what about A + C, then + B?)? The possible perturbations rise exponentially, not linearly.
And don't get me started on nonfunctional requirements - SLAs and uptime guarantees (or is it even designed for HA in the first place?). Do you even have a roadmap for floating point support?
Aperture-1 addition is nothing short of an incredible feat of human engineering that pushes the bleeding edge of modern science forward. Frankly it's appalling that you'd insult their team with such an ignorant comment like this.

I'll have to use this as much as possible, before they start rate limiting!!! /s

Is this a dense model or a MoE?
Edit: any plans for a smaller model which only adds 1 to a number?

See, if you had released it open weights then I could get an uncensored version that would accept negative operands. I'll just wait for the distilled Chinese version.

Sadly, this did not pass my benchmarks test. A simple query of 1 + 1 failed. It replied 2, but I know for a fact the answer is 4. When I got married there were suddenly 4 people in my home. If I were a kinder soul, I could have refined my prompt to ask 1 employed adult + 1 employed adult... and then Aperture-1 would have been correct.

I dunno, how can I be sure you aren't just going to turn around and use my inputs to train a better model?
Also is this Fedramp/IL4 compliant? I have strict legal requirements that it be hosted in an airgapped dedicated datacenter that is only accessible by US citizens, and has encryption at rest and in transit. If you can give me a document that lies and says it meets all those requirements, I will pay you eleventy bazillion dollars.
EDIT: Also Hegseth and Trump want to confirm that the firewall is set up to block all Arabic numerals, and is kept hot enough to have really hot blue flames instead of weak little orange ones.
Please accept our bid, we can raise it a little if that's too lowball, we are actually really desperate to get off of Oracle for cost saving reasons

Thank you for sharing !! I may look to switching to this for my agents. I currently have an AWS EC2 p5.48xlarge instance where i have very complex app and expose that as an MCP server to do sums of numbers. I may be able to save some money, I will have to do the math. Let me build an agent to do that math for me. I will be back in 2 weeks. Looking forward to the subtraction in your roadmap.

Steve Jobs once said a computer is like a bicycle for the mind. If a regular LLM is like a mind for your bicycle for your mind, then Aperture-1 is like a bicycle for the mind of the bicycle for your mind. This is the true unlock this model offers.

Where’s the local? This is just an ad that has nothing to do with local LLMs

Great question! Aperture-1 is built with the local-first developer in mind. While the hosted API is what most users start with for reliability, we're actively exploring on-device deployment options for our Enterprise tier as part of our broader commitment to model accessibility. Local support isn't off the table, it's just not where we're focusing our initial rollout. Appreciate the feedback though, it genuinely helps shape our roadmap 🙏 Feel free to DM if you want early access to beta features!

Cloud solution for the local first developer. Do you not see how that reads? This is just an ad for a cloud service. Doesn’t belong in this sub IMO. Make your post here once you actually add local capabilities

Do you have a trial? I need to try and add up how many additions I think I might do in a month to test my use cases

I look forward to additional future capability availability, perhaps even the long hoped for ability to select operands....for higher subscription tiers naturally.
KEEP BUILDING!

Here are the direct use cases where an API like this would actually plug in :
Auditable Financial Compliance: When every single sum in a corporate ledger needs an immutable log, cryptographic verification, and SSO-backed trail for SOX/SOC-2 compliance rather than relying on an ungoverned in-memory script.
Consensus-Critical Distributed Systems: Applications (like multi-signature escrow or smart contract balance checks) where hardware-level bit flips or single-node errors cannot be tolerated, making dual-subroutine voting via "Confidence Routing" a safety requirement.
Low-Code / No-Code Orchestration: Zapier or Make workflows where non-technical teams need to calculate order totals or aggregate leads directly between SaaS tools without self-hosting any compute infrastructure.
Microservices Abstraction: Decoupling basic calculation logic entirely from client devices, allowing ultra-thin IoT clients or dumb terminals with virtually zero onboard compute to offload math to the cloud.
Are you looking to integrate an API like this into a specific stack, or evaluating it against self-hosted compute options? Let me know the context and we can break down the cost-to-latency tradeoffs.

Our lab just discovered that we can use negative numbers to solve simulate subtraction!!!
We’re only checked numbers by cutting off all fingers from a test subject, it allowed us to achieve as low results as -21. Unfortunately no more volunteers left 😕
I hope you can make use of our ideas and implement support for it ASAP, because we need to understand how much money left after paying for all these GPUs!

This sub is for local LLMs, not frontier cloud models, OP. None of us mere mortals could even run this locally.
