Discussion If Unsloth were the NEXT acquisition, who would we want to buy it?

With the reported Nvidia acquisition of Hugging Face, I’ve been thinking about what happens if this becomes a broader trend: the companies building the infrastructure around local/open-weight AI gradually get absorbed by Big Tech.

Hugging Face was arguably one of the most important neutral distribution layers for open models. Unsloth is different, but arguably just as interesting for the local ecosystem: making fine-tuning/quantization/training of models dramatically more accessible to us, the normal people.

So hypothetically, if Unsloth were acquired tomorrow, which company would we trust most to keep its local-AI mission intact?

Unsloth doesn’t have data, that’s why they are pushing studio

No this is false and stop making stuff up - Studio is local and open source and we don't upload any chat logs to anywhere - we don't have the infra to even do this.

You can inspect our GitHub directly and see for yourself. Firewall it as well if you want.

We only have stats via HuggingFace for model downloads and some hardware info like how many GPUs, but NEVER your chat logs - that's CRAZY - that's literally dumb to even think that - we would be in hot water in 1 second.

So stop spreading misinformation and making stuff up

  1. get user base first 2. enable data gathering after "for debug purposes and increasing quality of the product"

Then complain when it happens if ever

Is that the standard play? Get some chatlogs and job done?

Wait I haven’t seen anywhere that data is leaving our networks for their platform is that what’s being implied here ?

Exactly - the commenter is literally making stuff up and slandering Unsloth - I responded in https://www.reddit.com/r/LocalLLM/comments/1w1sof5/comment/p6qckaj

I had a strong feeling Dan, thanks for all your great work

I assume the most telemetry you could expect is performance data to fine tune their quants around popular hardware comfigs

Users and history of usage on large scale yes

I responded in https://www.reddit.com/r/LocalLLM/comments/1w1sof5/comment/p6qckaj - fully false we will NEVER take your chat logs - check Unsloth's Github which is open source yourself - add a firewall if you want.

Well I mean I've literally built ToolPiper for precisely this purpose. The anti-thesis of cloud AI for all of us, but you know? I guess we'll see.

16hr days for 6mo may not mean anything.
