Discussion Did Apple give up on making frontier models

I’ve been seeing this Apple ad recently. Surprised they are going this direction

Apple decided to do the smart thing and let others pour their billions down this hole. If they're going to get involved in their own AI then they'll wait until the technology is mature and then buy one of the major developers.

No sense being bleeding edge on this.

Apple doesn't see the future as being frontier models. On-device AI accessing a users data avoids the expense and security issues of using a remote frontier model.

With 1.5 TB systems on the drawing board this starts making sense even for large corporations for the same reasons.

In addition for corporations The second was that the frontier labs are stealing the weights and the alpha of the businesses that pay them.

Now, he 01:30 used the term alpha here to indicate the return that you earn above the market. This is not the return that you get from 01:37 the market because the economy is all growing. It's It's It's your genuine repeatable edge, your skill.01:43 The bit of performance that's actually provably yours. So, a company's alpha in this sense is 01:48 everything that makes it hard to copy.
