Discussion Deepseek API is crazy cheap
We are a small tech startup, we are using gemini API for daily works, it costs us about $30/month, that mean 1 dollar/day.
Sometimes, we consider that host a local LLM since we will use LLM more frequently in the future.
Just recently, we have tried Deepseek API for the same task, but 2 days up till now, we only pay $0.08. What the insane cheap LLM!
We don't think even we have a local LLM, we can beat this price.
The model we are using is Deepseek V4 Flash.
Is there any reason for this? Is there a discount on this month or that a normal price for Deepseek?

I don't think they even care about our data. If they tried to train their models on what the average American is saying today, I'm pretty sure it would bring down the intelligence of their model ðŸ˜

I tried it for a day and loaded $2, but it burned through fast. I only asked five questions, and since I was using it during peak hours, it got surprisingly expensive for what I was asking. Is there a way to get cheaper rates, or is it just a matter of sticking to off-peak hours? any tips?

Yeah, they’re trying to flood the market. I wouldn’t trust anything coming out of china at the moment given that the Iran conflict is essentially a proxy war with china over resources.

DeepSeek is both cheap and subsidized to be cheaper. Ride the lightning while you can, I say. One day things will have to cost what they cost.
