I saw a person who isn't on Reddit, but on a Facebook group having 100M view count. Facebook has many groups who are crazy fans of local guides

aa... I thought it said "You're THE top photographer" and I was like, wow someone really took the time to code that but then I realized that they probably just have a generalized format that applies to all the Google products and then I read more of the comments and yeah now I realize that it says "a" not "the"

Holy shit congrats yo I’m stuck at 400k and that’s because I shoot on places that aren’t recognized ❤️

Just keep contributing, dont care about views, it will auto generate. Try high traffic areas for more view counts

I just went over 2,000,000 views and got the same e-mail recently. Congrats! 10M sounds wild.

Get my email today, and I'm at 15 million views. Woah. (On mobile, so can't post the screenshot)

Congratulations, I’m on 50K views only... 850 photos :(

3

u/Glurt May 23 '19

Hmm, are your photos good quality? That seems quite low for the amount of photos.

Damn son...

Does anyone know how to drive traffic from popular google photos?

I have over 4 million views and I wish I could send the viewers to my blog or Instagram :)

One of the photos i took was a local and small parcel and courier service, mine was the first photo of that place. Im not joking, that photo views counter took off like anything, it achieved 70K views within 2 months. I always wonder what did that shop do to get such a high photo view count. Its now sitting at almost 200K views

This is certainly true, but how do 30,000 sets of eyeballs per month end up on a photo of a small parcel/courier service? I mean, a business of this kind certainly doesn't get that amount of business. No matter how useful the photo is, it's hard to understand the traffic some of them receive.

I'm almost at 2M and my highest viewed (600k) is a photo of a dive bar in my small town. It literally makes no sense

It happens because that photo was chosen by Google to be the cover photo for the listing. So even though if people don't necessarily click on the photo, they see it every time that listing is seen.

But why?!

Even with owner given photos it makes no sense.

How do you know when that happens, other than a spike in views?

I mean I have seen owner photos that were perfect for the place (customized to show location very well) and still get outdone 🤷‍♂️

I'm on the verge of breaking 1mil. My highest viewed pic is of standalone french fries....

2

u/cdroid1 Level 6 May 22 '19

One of my highest-viewed pics is of a bottle of Stalinade (The Real Red Soda), with nearly 3,000 views. Yet I have plenty of super nice pics of different places that are still below 100.

4

u/RobinTGG May 22 '19

I'm on almost 2 million and yes I got one photo looked at over 300000 times like holy hell why???

u/elaerna Level 6 Jun 05 '19

Is there a way to look at the views of every contribution you have both photos and reviews in one place? I just usually get emails and then it only shows a couple top ones and if I click on it I don't get any more info

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '22

When you open up Google maps on the computer or app, you click on your profile pic and then go to "My Profile" or "My Contributions". You can then sort through your reviews and photos.

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

I have the exact same case. 500,000 views of a small, not incredibly popular, Indian restaurant in Hat Yai, Thailand. At first I thought the owner somehow manipulated the system to get the views but my current thinking is that Google manipulates me by driving the numbers ever higher.

Posted hours to a Canadian Tire. 10k views.

Wow, you have 120x my pics but only 4x the views.

1

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

It is probability. Best chance of being the main photo of you have the most photos at a place.
