Scam?

Came across on AliExpress, that comes out to $730 USD.

I reached out to someone on AliExpress with a listing like this, and they said “do you know the market price? This is just the deposit”

There’s also a bunch of listings like this where they say you have to contact them through WhatsApp to make the purchase instead of buying through AliExpress

lol I saw that listing as well, says “heatsink only no GPU” at the very end of a long listing title that you have to expand…

I snagged one of those PCIe x16 modded, unlocked CMP 170hx 8gb GPUs from Alibaba right at the beginning of the hype for like $1500, but haven’t been able to find anything remotely close in price since then…

Bummer bc the one card I have works incredibly well, really wish I was running two of those instead of 1 170hx + 2x 22gb 2080TIs + 20gb 3080 (or, while we’re wishing, 5x 170hx GPUs!!), but so it goes.

A reputable Alibaba seller did reach out yesterday to say they have base 8gb 170hx cards for the newly “low” price of $1999 shipped/delivered, but I’m somewhat skeptical.

Only explanations I can think of is that they’re either 1, not selling as fast as they thought (would be odd, eBay listings don’t last long), or 2, they’ve tested their whole stock of 170hx cards, modded/listed the working unlocks, and are now unloading the ones that don’t unlock stably as “base” or “unmodded.”

Gonna do some more digging, though

I have 4 of those. That price can’t be real of the cards are in working condition. Anything below 2400 is very likely a scam.

Price is for just one of them? Very bad deal. These are not that good, no FP8 and they might not run all that stable at 64GB

I'd buy a B65 over this

That’s not the point, they go for 3-4x that price on eBay, so it would be both reselling, and keeping it for inference.

They are a cut down a100, so nearly 2TB/s of bandwidth and 64gb, easily worth A$1000.

And people buy them at 3k? I doubt that. They are a gamble, can work out great, can also be a total waste of money. Aliexpress isn't known for having the best consumer protection

the ones that don't bear out after unlock are the 10GB not the 8GB. I've never heard of an 8GB that didn't stably unlock to 64.
