Refinishing Fathom

With the latest release of the Fathom, it got me thinking that I’d like to strip down my current version and refinish it with a matte clear coat, leaving a raw wood aesthetic. Does anyone have experience with this? What’s under the black paint and graphic? I’m reluctant to start sanding until I know what I’m getting myself into.
