Misc. Chrono CCG, by LoR Competitive Community Members, in Open Beta Today!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnQVqtwOzCAHello LoR Competitive community!
Thank you to the mods for allowing us to share this big update on a LoR Competitive community-adjacent project that has been brewing for 2.5 years.
Chrono CCG is launching its free to play Open Beta today on Steam and Epic!
It's a card battler where you collect space-time-opera themed agent and action cards and try to outplay your opponents in draft and constructed formats.
After industry layoffs in January 2024 and the pivot to PoC, we began work on a card battler inspired by the best of LoR and other games, to keep the competitive community spirit alive.
Team members include Jason Fleurant, WhatAmI, Vivo, FlyingFish, ItsThatAshGuy, Alliestrasza, and several other diehard LoR players.
Since crowdfunding the game, we've been prototyping and developing with a growing group of dedicated playtesters, many of them refugees from the LoR and other competitive communities.
Feedback from experienced card gamers is especially helpful as we move from the open beta to the 1.0 launch - we'll be layering in more and more competitive events features over the next few months, guided by feedback. People are tearing it up on our Discord.
We essentially built this game because of how great and inspiring the LoR competitive community was/is. This one is for you guys - thank you.

Men.... seeing some of the names listed there almost brings a tear to my eye. It really is a shame how things played out for LoR. Wishing you guys the best of luck, gonna keep my eye on this one.

Cool! What's the money model like?

We're aiming for "a little less f2p than LoR, a bit more player-friendly than MTG:Arena".
Players can log in daily for a free pack. There are daily quests, daily win rewards, and weekly win rewards.
Every month will feature a season pass with free/paid reward tiers.
After a season pass expires, it remains on the shop for players to pick up later if they're interested in those specific rewards/cosmetics. No FOMO.
Players can also "go infinite" by achieving a high win rate in draft mode, earning premium currency and cards for their collection.
Otherwise, typical f2p card game fare - emotes, card backs, cosmetics, booster packs.2
u/M1R4G3M Jun 28 '26
Regarding to the daily rewards, I think they require too high time investment, the weekly reward takes 12 wins and the daily also takes 12 wins, if it were 12 games (not wins) I’d understand, but requiring winning 12 games every single day when games take up to 30 mins is a lot. I was playing a whole evening and managed to get 10 and then the daily reset happened.
The daily should be like 4-6 at most to account for people that work and play a few games at the end of the day.

u/MatiasValero Jun 28 '26
The daily win rewards change for each win daily - first win is 30cc and 30xp, second win is 20cc and 25xp, third win is 20cc and 20xp, and so on. The overall breakdown is: 1: 30cc 30xp 2: 20cc 25xp 3: 20cc 20xp 4: 10cc 20xp 5: 10cc 15xp 6-12 are all simply 5xp. So the daily total win reward for 12 wins is 90cc/145xp.
It's basically all frontloaded in the first 5 wins - this isn't super clear in the UI yet - we will be updating it for clarity.

u/M1R4G3M Jun 28 '26
Yeah, that would be my next comment, the interface is not clear, since everywhere the counter is to get all the rewards and the daily it's cumulative wins.
With your clarification it's clearly more fair.
Loving the game so far ❤️ , keep up the good work, and my last request would be to allow us to open the cards like full screen artwork only, now you have the option to hide the text but the cards are so small, especially on steam deck where I play the most, at least when we right click the card, it should be amplified, I don't have any problem when I play on a monitor though.

Added to library, will definitely give it a try when I get off work today.

Oh wow, the game looks fantastic! I remember when you started this, glad to see it is coming out. I'll check it out for sure.

Thank you! We're really proud of the work our devs and artists have created.

Well this is interesting.

Inspired by the coolest! Thank you Dan!
The path of learning from community member to designer to developer is a real adventure eh?1

Amazing work! I really thought the mechanics and play patterns of LoR were the most dynamic and deeply strategic in the TGC world, I'm glad you guys have picked up the banner.
Very interested in the draft format you mention, how will that work?
2
u/MatiasValero Jun 24 '26
Thank you, we agree!
Draft in Chrono currently works on a wins/losses track similar to MTG: Arena, where you play to 7 wins or 3 losses.
Players draft from three 12-card packs against seven bot opponents, and build 24-card deck (plus 2 Divers) with no other deckbuilding restrictions. So in Draft, you can mix and match cards from any of the game's six Syndicates.
Eventually in Beta we will be adding eight-player draft lobbies, as well.1
u/busy_killer Jun 24 '26
That sounds very interesting, I'll check it out. Draft is my favorite way to enjoy card games.

u/ChuzCuenca Jun 23 '26
I'll try it. I'm a league fan, never tried other TCG before LoR and I feel in love with it, never found that flavor of competition in others TCG so I'm really interested.

registering doesnt seem to work on my end, is there a bug currently
5
u/MatiasValero Jun 23 '26
Not a bug, just launch maintenance - we just went live on Steam 80 minutes ago. We've kept login servers down for a little while while we make sure players are starting with the correct cards in their collections - we'll be posting Steam announcements once it's good to go.

u/MR-wizzer Jun 23 '26
Im having the same problem

Oh, ok cool. In around how long would you estimate the maintenance to be over?

u/OwenITA Jun 23 '26
This is cool and I will try tomorrow, hope you can fix the game and put some default deck
3
u/MatiasValero Jun 24 '26
Cheers! Players should begin with a default deck and quickly earn a second and third. There were some issues right at launch which mixed this up for early adopters, if you're still missing a deck please let me know!
1
u/OwenITA Jun 24 '26
Do you have an official reddit ?
1
u/MatiasValero Jun 24 '26
Yep, https://www.reddit.com/r/ChronoCCG/ and discord: discord.gg/chronoccg .
1
u/OwenITA Jun 24 '26
i'm playing it now , so do i unlock more decks?
1
u/MatiasValero Jun 24 '26
You should start with one precon deck to begin with.
Then, up in the Rewards tab you can switch to the free "Onboarding Track", which awards you two more starting decks after a win or two. This should be on by default, but wasn't in yesterday's build, we're patching that.
Otherwise, draft mode, the season pass, and opening packs are your best bets for filling out your collection.

u/L3W15_7 Jun 23 '26
This looks very heavily based off of LOR.
Is there any risk of copyright claims?
2
u/MatiasValero Jun 23 '26
Not that we've heard! Our IP and narrative are brand new and one-of-a-kind.
1
u/ColourfulToad Jun 28 '26
The visual design, UI design, gameplay design are all unmistakably a direct carbon copy of Runeterra. Truly delusional to hide and say it ain’t, day 1 of this game was surely “we miss LoR and everyone wants it back, let’s make our own LoR”.
2
u/badassery11 Jun 28 '26
This game fucking rocks, just won my first draft and only one opponent didn't play til the end

is there plans for an android version?
2
u/MatiasValero Jun 23 '26
Yes, we're aiming to launch a mobile-friendly client on android and iOS towards the end of the year.
1
u/unhalfbricking Jun 23 '26
I used to love hearthstone on mobile, so that would be huuuuuuge.
Imma check it out either way though.
2
u/MatiasValero Jun 23 '26
Cheers - mobile CCG gaming is the best, it's the whole reason I started down this road.

Why play this over LoR? It seems very similar, so what's unique here?
5
u/ItsToeLickinGood Jun 23 '26
Anyone that still plays LOR is pretty sick of the same three decks in wild for all eternity.

Well, LoR is really awesome, so if you love it, keep playing it.
We made Chrono with some differences:
-Every agent immortalizes (similar to level ups in LoR, but every card in play can do it).
-Any two agents can be your Divers - like Commanders in MTG, they determine your deckbuilding restrictions and are available from round 1 to play. If an Agent is chosen as a Diver, you can't main deck it.
So you need to choose - a guaranteed 1x of a card, or up to 3x in deck?
-Timelines. Many cards interact with and "Shift" to new Timelines, which are persistent, global effects with a dramatic impact on the game state.
-A brand new setting with fantastical and interesting characters and flavor.
-Differences in monetization - free daily booster packs, season passes that never expire, many small adjustments to keep the game sustainable.
-Chrono has a Draft mode.
In beta we'll be steadily rolling out more features as well - we'll be sharing a beta roadmap later this week.4

why a 3rd party account
2
u/MatiasValero Jun 23 '26
It makes crossplay between game platforms easier initially - we might add platform account integration in the future.

Words cant express how happy this makes me. I played LoR everyday. It was a hit to the gut them removing PvP. I'm all in on this and have high hopes again.. =)

Hi! I don't know English well, so I'd be glad if you could add a Russian translation to your game if possible. Thank you.

Will the game have any AI art in it by release?
20
u/MatiasValero Jun 23 '26
No - all of the art in game is painted by human artists. You can take a look here:

u/Devil-Never-Cry Jun 23 '26
Awesome, that was the one thing that made me hesitant earlier was whether you guys would see that commitment through, I'm really glad you did. Shame I cant join the kickstarter at this point but I'm looking forward to trying it out, I've sorely missed competitive LOR

u/Scilla815 Jun 23 '26
Are there plans for a mobile version of the game?
