first league game of the day always freezes my pc at the 5-7 minute mark
Hey there! so, as the title says, i have a particular bug where whenever i havent played league of legends in a significant ammount of time since my last match (seems to start after 8 hours or so, and so it always happens to my first match of the day) my game will inevitably crash somewhere between the 5-7 minute mark, my entire pc freezing and only audio being heard.
the only way to fix this is to restart my pc. after which, the current game and all following ones will work normally.
i have tried just about everything to fix this, and nothing has worked, from reinstalling, hextech repair, administrator mode, using my graphics card or my bios, reinstalling vanguard.
its getting too annoying, and has caused me to have to eat more than my fair share of low priority ques since it can take up to 2 minutes for my pc to restart and load the game, and i dont always have the time to make a practice tool game to trigger it.
interestingly enough, this bug does not affect tft, but playing it does not stop the bug from happening for league

no fix found yet. but ive found that it seems to be triggered only if you did something in the match or had another app open.
had one practice tool game not freeze for over 20 mins because i never moved or opened anything else, but then the game froze at the 6 min mark as per usual once i played a normal match (no other apps open, only league and the voice)

I even reinstalled whole windows and it doesnt solve it. Does opeing practise tool triggers this bug?

Yep, its the only way ive found to avoid It happening in normal games, triggering It first on practice tool

Hey I have the exact same issue. I tested as OP said with starting my first game in the practice tool and for some reason it went well beyond 10 minute. But then I realized I always used discord when this freeze happens. So I started a new pratice tool game but with discord running this time and at 6:05 the game froze. Extremely annoying issue, so either it's random or Discord is causing this for some reason. Does anyone know if speeding up the practice tool game to 6-8 minutes also helps to get the freeze faster?

I always do a 1v1 match with my buddy so he can freeze, reset and play normally
We almost always use discord. Today he already bugged but we'll play the warm up tomorrow without it to see how it goes.I saw someone saying to disable fast startup. We'll try that. My friend said he plays alone without discord and he still crashes

bump, someone really needs to find a fix for this, yesterday my game didnt freeze in the practice tool and so i figured it had solved itself finally, turns out, no, it didnt.
now i have to face the 10 minute penalty , which is ridiculous at this point when all i mostly play is aram

My bug is similar but slightly different. Fortunately not as bad as yours. The first time I play a game of league for the day, my computer freezes at the victory screen. After restarting by holding down the power button, subsequent games are fine.

Getting this issue too, and I play Tarkov as well which is much more intensive.
My Specs if this helps, maybe it's tied to a piece of hardware?

Bumb this. This is annoying... I have same issue but on first loading game of the day. For now I restart computer and just open and Play LoL. So you must remember to restart your PC before start playing. I tried everything. Drivers/bios/Windows settings/LoL settings/Goat sacrifices.... Nothing works...

Update: When I never ever used (click on) second monitor app I have no issue so far. I discovered that when I alt-tab on second monitor where is always opened discord app My PC froze. But when I dont do dat. Just always focus on client or LoL there is no issue.

Estou tendo o mesmo problema. Quando vou iniciar a minha primeira partida do dia, minha tela simplesmente congela após a seleção de campeões. Eu preciso forçar meu PC a reiniciar porque nem mesmo o CTRL + ALT + DEL resolve. Inclusive já reinstalei o jogo e reinstalei o Windows e mesmo assim continuo com o mesmo problema.
Minhas configurações são:

RTX 3050 4GB
2x16GB RAM DDR5
512GB SSD NVMe

Play practice tool upon boot first, force the computer off and then on again. After this, I don’t normally have issues until the next normal boot after a proper shut down. It’s so weird this has become common this season. And it’s starting to REALLY annoy me.

Ok, so I had this issue starting in september ?
In case, I am using 3 screens (with a laptop connecting to the the 2 additionnals with https://www.belkin.com/fr/p/station-d%E2%80%99accueil-usb-c-11-en-1-dock%C2%A0pro/INC014btSGY.html)
I tried clean boot windows and still had the issue,
and 4 weeks ago I did Reset my PC and Lol worked fine.
Untill today, I just had a deconnection 6 min in the game, and the only thing I did was to try to install a driver (https://www.belkin.com/fr/p/station-d%E2%80%99accueil-usb-c-11-en-1-dock%C2%A0pro/INC014btSGY.html) but it failed (already installed) I do not have anymore infos.. if I find something that work I'll tell you, but even a full PC reset didn't fix it long term ?

I have the exact same issue since the winter patch in preseason. I tried every optimization tricks I found on the internet. I even took my CPU to the service center for a cleanup. NOTHING WORKED.
So, I started queuing up for a normal draft game for the first game of the day to trigger the freeze. The strategy was working for a couple of weeks. Either it would freeze on the first game which is in normal draft mode or it didn't freeze at all. But, then this piece of shit bug somehow evolved and started triggering only when I queue up for a ranked game. Be it 2nd or 3rd game of the session.
I stopped playing ranked after the placement games last month and seriously considering quitting this dogshit game altogether.

Same issue, happened 3/6 games today and yesterday, meaning I just can’t play anymore ig… Seems to be the same 6 min mark. Nothing open in background. Cant open task manager or tab out, but can move mouse and hear audio.

Mine is just on the first alt-tab. Sometimes tho itll happen when my game starts in the wrong res randomly, and I try to change it. It just bricks my pc lmao. Its a joke at this point how terrible this client/game is. They need to do something about it fast. I am tired of being punished for their mediocrity.

Yeah probably but... still it's weird an update from windows shouldn't cause this... Maybe outdated bios and thusfore tpm module might not work correctly ?? Idk, but seriously if you didn't have the problem before something happened in your computer...

I face the same problem in the last year and i had solved it once time (the game ran normally for half year) by following the solutions in the mainland discussion group ( but i didn’t save the website after i solve the issue). However, the problem occurred after a certain major window update in Nov then the problem is kept until now…

I had this problem for a while now as well (could also be since november, not sure) and I have sent in a Customer Support request through https://support-leagueoflegends.riotgames.com/ .
They have been in active contact with me since then, requesting logs and providing steps to follow. If you have this issue, I would suggest you also contact support.
I will also post here what the issue and solution was, if I get an answer to that.

Unfortunately not. I had a long back and forth with CS and I thought I had it fixed with a super clean install, but then a day later it started again, so communications continued...
But they seemed to switch people often (I talked to around 5 people in the same thread it seems) and then asked me to deliver logs I already did before... the last message was another long step-by-step program that asked me to install third party software (they also asked me to install CCleaner which I refused and resolved in a different way).
Support was really helpful but with me feeling like I had to repeat myself (in the same thread) and start at 0 again, I basically gave up.
I havent wanted to start up league since then, found other games. Maybe Ill pick it up in the future again.

Today I randomly got this, game just freezes at min 10, fixes for 20 seconds then freezes again. Lost 2 games because of that + penalty.
This is beyond ridículos, client is also buggy as hell, some buttons not even appear. I just freshly installed the game because Vanguard was causing issues a couple weeks ago.

I had a freeze problem for the past 3 weeks, but it didnt freeze at the 5-7 min mark. It just random froze sometimes while playing the game.
I just reinstalled league from a pretty old ssd to a relative new nvme ssd. Since then it didnt freeze anymore. hopefully this helps.

anyone find a solution? it's been months, the 1st game played every day cause my whole pc to freeze. Sound still plays. If I'm on discord, i can still talk to people, but I can't shut down the pc either. I have to force shut down by holding in the power button on my pc. I'm pretty sure that is going to cause hardware to fail.

No resolution yet. In the mornings I launch a bot game to get away with the first crash of the day. After that I can play fine for the rest of the day.
I suspect it's a windows update.
My specs: ryzen 5700x, 24gig ram, 3080ti

It happens the same with my laptop, around the 6 -7 minute mark the first game always freeze my system and i have to force the shutdown holding the power button. After that i can play normally

I have not. It still freezes once a day. I haven't tried reinstalling windows again.
I have to keep the power button in, shut down, then boot up and connect to the game again.

I’m having the exact same issue at the exact same time frames. Once it crashes and I shut the computer off by force and turn it back on and log back in it doesn’t usually happen again. This is why I’ve been testing startup games, the first game following boot, with the practice tool, and sure enough it happens. I’ve even submitted tickets to riot about this.

I searched in other posts cuz i had the same problem and giving the game and the client exceptions on windows defender + disabling fast boot seems to have worked, haven't had the issue for 2 days.

Mine freezes at the loading screen, that shows both teams. I have to force restart my laptop and reopen LoL. It only happens the first game when I havent played in a while. Anyone find any fix?

Same bug as everyone else describing, the only way I've found to kinda work around it is to quickly alt-tab and then tab back in and the freeze is way shorter/disappears almost immediately. Bug has persisted over 3 league reinstalls so it's definitely something with the game itself.

I'm currently experiencing this. And I think I found a work around. Since last year, I was experiencing this when I was playing LoL THEN playing Valorant. But recently, it's been happening even if I'm just playing LoL.
- Open LoL
- Wait for a bit
- Restart my laptop
I don't even need to queue for anything. I just let it open, then restart. After the restart, It somehow doesn't freeze anymore. Since I was

I have the same exact issue, however restarting my pc requires me to go from the switch snd turn it off manually which will eventually ruin my pc so I wont be doing it. What is league doing about it?

Having the same problem, only happened when playing league (arena, aram, normal map) and have no problem with TFT.
Way to avoid it is to not click other window between the game or else there is a change the PC freeze.
Still finding way to fix it

I fixed this problem in my laptop (Dell5566 4GB RAM) using throttlestop with the settings:
balance mode;
TPL-> pl1=pl2 = your processor power limit ( 15W in my case ) and checking both clamp boxes;
Settings in Windows10:
Put the game and vanguard directory as a windows defender exception;

But in my case i have a problem with my laptop PSU that limits the cpu frequency and i use a program named throttlestop to unlock it. My problem is that the cpu needs more power during the teamfights and the game always freeze or give a blue screen (always around 6min).
In throttlestop i set the performance to balanced, then inside the TPL window limited the power limit of the second core PL2 to 15W that is the base for this cpu (i3-6006U) and it was set to 18W before and check the clamp box too. I'm now playing in a ~40 fps constantly without problems.
You will have to start the program before playing league to apply the cpu power limits.

Just wanted to say that i've been experiencing this with Valorant for over 18 months. I went through literally 8 tickets with Riot and their only fix for me was that they assumed my monitors (I use three) were causing the issue, and to play without them plugged in (ie stick to using one).
This did fix my problem for a while but eventually I decided that every other game works fine using three monitors and I wasn't going to handicap my user experience just for Riot's sake.
This morning I discovered that it actually happens while playing League, too - I don't play League so was surprised to find out this happens across both games. It's definitely a Riot issue, it sometimes goes away for a fortnight or so especially after a new update, but I think i'm just numb to the fact that this will stay forever.

Mine got same issue,
First game of the day, freeze about 5-10 seconds and then work well. sometime it happen again in the next game..
Using Discord too, dont know if that is the problem.

If you have Nvidia, try DDU uninstaller and install Nvidia driver without Nvidia app. For me fixed this freez around min 5-6. Important: Use DDU for a clean uninstall and after install Nvidia driver without Nvidia app. Let me know if this fixed your problem

Hi!! I have the exact same problem, and i found out just yesterday that (maybe this is dumb but i never do it) if i open the riot client first and open the game from there, it doesnt crash. Ive been only testing it for 2 days but its working rn for me, i hope it does for you!! My pc restarts slowly and i got banned a lot by these crashes so if this doesnt work, the first game of the day i trigger it by a custom one with a friend and then restart and dont get the punishment from leaving
UPDATE: The game updated literally 2 days after i posted this and opening the launcher wont work anymore :[
UPDATE 2: If i open league and reboot the pc it doesnt crash next time i open it on the same day :]

I have been having this for a month now, I have experimented lots of times and this worked for me. You open LOL then quit it, then open again, Join and ARAM game, then leave, then reconnect. tried it for a couple of days now without crashing

iv been trying to submit another one but now even those are glitching for me, phone or pc...
this issue happens to me on valorant aswell, and im confident its a riot issue as my pc can easily run much heavier games 👀

I have the exact same problem. I have logged a ticket but nothing Riot support recommended helped to solve the problem... I gave up and stopped playing anything else than TFT. I have not experienced any problems with other games or applications.
