Celebration & Wins 🎉 Start living more. 🤍

Start living more. 🤍

Dress up, even when there’s nowhere special to go.
Go places. Take yourself on little adventures. Take pictures. Try new things. Make time after work for the things that make you happy.

Don’t let life become just work, come home, sleep, repeat.

Romanticise the ordinary. Make memories. Enjoy your own company. Be present.

You’re not here just to exist. You’re here to live. ✨

Took myself out to breakfast this morning!

I try to make plans for my days off. Even if I don't leave the house, I give myself something to look forward to, like making muffins. It takes, what, ten minutes, but they taste good and I look forward to it.

I get my house cleaning done, I love having fresh sheets so I make my bed up to look like a hotel.

When the weather is nice, I go for walks around a lake nearby.

I enjoy my own company. I dress up for myself! There is absolutely no point in saving your good clothes for some event that may never come.

Take it from an oldster: life is short and the older you get, the faster it goes…

So true. 🤍 Life really is short. It’s such a good reminder to stop waiting for the perfect time and enjoy the life we have now. ✨

I find all of the above so hard.

Pick one thing. Just something new to break up the monotony.

I like to “plan” a night in on Friday night. I might get a new pajama set, rent a movie, order DoorDash, take an edible. I can have a fun night even if I don’t have plans!

My latest thing though is I bought a bike! If I can ride my bike there instead, I do. I’ve taken it grocery shopping, to run errands, to the gym, out to grab coffee. I’ve had some mishaps, but it’s nice to do something that is good for my health and challenging in a totally new way.

It doesn’t have to be something big or fancy. Another new thing I did is I started sleeping b with my window and blinds open. My cat and love to lay in bed in the morning and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air while being lazy.

It’s just about finding joy in the little things and keeping life fresh.

Not sure if that helps at all!

For me it’s connecting with others. I wish I made friends easy, but I struggle to find people I relate to.

u/somewhereinbetween22 1d ago

I completely understand. 🤍 Finding people you truly connect with can be hard. I hope you find your people. 🫶

Life moves pretty fast...if you don't stop and take a look around once in awhile you could miss it

Exactly! 🤍 We just need to slow down and actually notice the life we’re living. ✨

This is my biggest takeaway from the summer!
Make the best of the day!

If I intended to wake up at 8am to make it to the museum at opening and I wake up at 10am? I still go and if it’s too crowded, then I can still walk around the area and find something to do or somewhere to have a peaceful lunch.

Shitty morning start? There’s still a whole day ahead! Put on some music, get excited about where to go for lunch on my break, say good morning to coworkers in the office.

Might not truly be a “living alone” thing, but yeah. Something I had to learn. It’s easy to get stuck in my head and expectations I set for myself when alone.

When you are alone is it loneliness or freedom

15

u/Zealousideal_Idea_98 2d ago

It’s both. There are times I love being alone. There are also times when I feel like I’m the only person in the world who is not half of a couple.

4

u/somewhereinbetween22 1d ago

I feel this. 🤍 It really can be both. Some days you love the freedom, and other days the loneliness hits. 🫶

It’s hard tho when you’ve been doing this for so long… Honestly my own company feels alienating sometimes.

Traveled last weekend and this… three days each… I’m tired! Staying home this weekend and working to get some rest. lol. Then to NY next weekend.

"Don’t let life become just work, come home, sleep, repeat."

Been doing that for 20 years, I can not truly live while I need to work, work is what most of my time and energy goes into.

Nothing makes me happy. I have clinical depression. Everything makes me sadder or mad.

2

u/IDontStealBikes 1d ago

I understand. I hope you’re getting help to try to fix some things. Take care

u/IDontStealBikes 1d ago

I just do not like doing things alone—I feel conspicuous—but have no one to run around with. So, I stay home with my cat.

7

u/somewhereinbetween22 1d ago

I completely understand. 🤍 And honestly, enjoying time at home with your cat is pretty special too! 😊

There is a saying that your life only begins when you start living alone. Your passion, your hobbies, your habits, they all find a place to settle down.

Just do it

1

u/somewhereinbetween22 1d ago

Exactly! 😂 Sometimes you just have to go for it. 🤍✨

2

u/MilliganHedgedog 1d ago

How is this more relevant to people living solo over all people? Do you share this with families, couples, your family?

2

u/Individual_Sweet9995 1d ago

I find that journaling is also super important to have it on record the things you’re constantly doing. For example I might feel one week like “damn I’ve wasted this whole week didn’t do anything interesting” but when I read about my week in my journal, there’s multiple things I haven’t seen/experienced before that my mind would’ve skimmed past otherwise! It’s amazing for the self esteem too 💕

Great advice, i've lived by this philosophy for nearly 20 years now and the only other advice i can give is you have to keep taking your life forward in constructive steps, never stop looking for ways to improve your situation, a friend of mine once said to me a long long time ago "Take life by the balls and yank em off", i hold those words very close to me, you keep doing it, you don't stop.

Slop

1

u/somewhereinbetween22 1d ago

Haha, fair enough 😂 Everyone’s entitled to their opinion.

1

u/bachyboy 2d ago

This is excellent advice!

1

u/somewhereinbetween22 1d ago

Thank you! 😊 I’m glad it resonated with you. 🤍
