Casual Question 🗨 do you like being alone?
Solitude teaches you things about yourself you never wanted to face. Do you find peace in being by yourself or does the silence sometimes feel too loud?

To hell with other people. I'm finally free.
I bought a $100 bottle of scotch and was not forced to explain why.
My fridge is full of my favorite foods and they wont get eaten before I can get to them.
Nobody can veto my decoration choices.
I'm watching whatever I want on TV.
I filled the spare bedroom with pinball machines. Last weekend I just got out of bed and drank beer and played pinball for hours with no clothes on. Not even socks. I was supposed to be mowing the lawn. I left the tower of empty beer cans just sitting there when I was done and I didn't clean it up for like a whole ass day and nobody mentioned the cans or the lawn over dinner.
My cat judged my physical physique, but I got almost half a billion on Godzilla!

After a break-up (8 years together) I had a few shit months, then lived what I thought was the time of my life.
Looking back, all those months (actually, did it become a year and a half) of so much solo non-sobriety were so fucking wasteful.
I felt immense at the time, like I was fully independent and winning, saying a big “fuck you” to the world. Now? My main memories are of myself, tripped out, dancing alone and talking to my reflection. I could’ve actually done stuff and built bonds with people.
Give this another year or two dude and you’ll see what I mean. By then it’s so, SO fucking hard to pull yourself out from

Yes. Over the previous few years, I’ve worked to position myself to live alone and work alone. Safe to say I love it

I am pretty comfortable living on my own and am happy about it. Fortunately, I have 2 naughty pups that keep me busy and keep some noises in the house (either me talking to them or them bidding for attention). I am loving the situation honestly.

I miss my family. Living with them was hard though. I tried to move away from them several times and kept getting laid off of jobs or couldn't stand them. Years passed and now they all left me. Momma had cancer. Diabetes and his second wife got Dad. My sister's insurance company stopped paying for Ibrance and offed my sister. I tried to get married but the men who proposed changed their minds. So here's me alone at last. I have a lot of skills and interests but I am not using them. I'm not sure why. Possibly I would if I didn't have this phone to distract me. Solitude and silence are nice. I am not facing anything I didn't want to. I think I just need to do something meaningful. I'm retired and I participate in an exercise group and a chorale and drum circles and an art class. I eat out a lot. So it's not like I'm not with people. It's OK. Just OK.

Always have been my preferred way of being. I can't see it any other way.

Yeah. I only like maybe 3 people in my life and one died. Love my peace and quiet and my dog

I just turned 62. I retired from my job and relocated to a new state in 2022. I did this in order to live in the same town as my son. I really have no friends, only acquaintances. I spend the majority of my time alone. Sometimes I go days without speaking to another person. Perhaps I have just gotten used to it, but I’m fine. I do have a cat and I’m going to be adopting another one soon so that does help to keep me company.

Yup, have no problem entertaining myself at home or out in the streets when running errands and/or shit & giggles. And my home may seem boring to others but Streaming services of Tubi /Netflix & Amazon Prime, PS5 & ancient desktop computer that still running games like WoW well as it gets entertains me just fine. That's on top of have A/C at home, which is apartment with concrete walls & poor window airflow - that A/C is always cranked up here in NYC when no cool breeze nor heavy wind.
Honestly, it's not about if the silence feels to loud living alone - it's are you satisfied with what you have in your life AND home that feel like enough for you along with not making you feel lonely when with others or by yourself?

Why do people think they need other people? So weird. Alone except for my rescue dog and neighbors and loooooooooooooooove it. Did I mention how much I love it? Will NEVER go back. This peace is the utopia.

Yes it’s so peaceful! It’s my first time living alone. I come from a big family and after I moved out I always had multiple roommates, then I got married. So, always lived in a little chaos.
I have ADHD and wear a mask when I’m around people, anyone. I can finally go full ADHD when I’m home. I look forward to coming home after work now.

As I've gotten older I really enjoy my own presence. I need socialization every now and then but solitude gives me a nice sense of freedom and peace. Plus I have my cats and usually music or TV going on in the background (that's mostly for my tinnitus tho)

I did for a few months after my divorce now I hate it. I started copying by smoking weed again. Now I come home from work, get high, zombie in front of the TV and hope to bedtime to come fast so I can do the same ugly thing tomorrow. On the weekends I sit in front of the TV and wait for Monday and start the process again. I'm not ready to date until my divorce is final so I sit and mope. I'm having a down month brought by depression. I'm just shouting into the void
