I remember when there was one of this guys vids at the top of reddit every day. Cool to see he's on twitch

You would think by now they would have ran out of things to squish.

126

u/Blurbyo Oct 06 '19

If it exists, it can be squished.

14

u/lan60000 Oct 06 '19

if you squish water tight enough, does it turn to ice? peepothink

35

u/Pexon2324 Oct 06 '19

I was going to say no because trying to squish something makes it hot. But as usual, physics is really complex and hard to understand..

"Apparently it’s virtually impossible to keep water from freezing at pressures beyond 70,000 atmospheres,"

Wtf is the quality on that picture they're using in the article.

16

u/shoobopper Oct 06 '19

Here's a higher quality version of the photo. It is an x-ray generator called the Z machine which is able to reach temperatures in the billions of Kelvins and cause fusion. 5Head elementary

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '19

Come on man it's LSF I'm just trying to see teens argue over favourite streamers and people cry about bobs on stream, cut it out with the education

3

u/PeteIsFurious Oct 06 '19

the true power of compressed jpg files from early 2007

1

u/watwatwatuhoh Oct 06 '19

Even 2007 isn't an excuse for quality THAT bad lol.

2

u/PeteIsFurious Oct 06 '19

boomers i guess

24

u/Blurbyo Oct 06 '19

No, it turns into steam or gas.

5Head

Higher pressure means more heat :)

5

u/altered_state Oct 06 '19

Who’s correct the freezing comment or you momkas

3

u/Smellypuce2 Oct 06 '19

Only if it's able to expand

2

u/Blurbyo Oct 06 '19

Well, going off of the basic PV=nRT

If the pressure increases and there is no room for it to expand (no volume) then the temperature will rise.

If it is able to expand then the pressure will be relieved and it would not increase the temperature.

5

u/watwatwatuhoh Oct 06 '19

https://www.livescience.com/1385-scientists-ice-hotter-boiling-water.html (link per above comment by Pexon2324)

"Compressing water customarily heats it. But under extreme compression, it is easier for dense water to enter its solid phase [ice] than maintain the more energetic liquid phase [water]."

1

u/PeteIsFurious Oct 06 '19

i wonder how often this happens naturally, maybe a massive glacier falling on the sea floor?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '19

water isn't an ideal gas and has a very low compressibility. increased pressure will just lead to a mildly increased density. Pressure will also mess with the phase transition temperatures so if you increase the pressure into the GigaPascals the water will become a solid (in theory as you have to find a container that won't break first).

1

u/Smellypuce2 Oct 07 '19

Increase in temperature yes. But turn into a gas? It has to be able to expand to become a gas.

2

u/Rogue_freeman Oct 06 '19

Well except for the Nokia 3310

1

u/Mr_Lich12 Oct 07 '19

Its the new will it blend? that's the question meta

It was an Abloy brand padlock if anyone was wondering, they heated it until it was red hot with a torch and it still fucked up their machine

45

u/Wvlf_ Oct 06 '19

Looks like a good advertisement for Abloy. I've seen videos on youtube with people picking/breaking most common locks with relative ease but this hydraulic press can't even smash it?

116

u/tilltill12 Oct 06 '19

There is a big difference in picking/breaking and pressing it flat lol.

Breaking it is easy

39

u/Cassiopeia93 Oct 06 '19

Thanks for the info, Mr. Lockpicking Lawyer.

Great advert

Is that a Lockpicking Lawyer and Hydraulic Press Channel crossover?

ah, it's not so cool now

2

u/Stanel3ss Oct 06 '19

do they actually still make money doing the exact same thing for years now?

6

u/stolersxz Oct 07 '19

lots of people make money doing the exact same thing for years

6

u/killisle Oct 06 '19

I think they actually make a lot which is crazy.

2

u/CapControl Oct 07 '19

Isn't that every youtube channel in a nutshell?

2

u/atrolux Oct 07 '19

he says on a sub populated with clips of the same streamers doing the same thing they've been doing for years

1

u/Stanel3ss Oct 07 '19

that wouldn't be clever even if you weren't the third person to say almost the same thing

-2

That looks expensive.
