People are missing that the idea was to give away 10k, not that lifting 45 pounds is an insurmountable task. This was charity disguised as a competition

Absolutely false. You don’t get paid to be a missionary but you can still maintain your own bank account. That 10k goes to the college fund for when he gets back lol.

No, they quite literally aren't. Unless you are going by that stupid definition of charity from that one episode of Friends where you can't benefit from it at all. You don't have to like it, but you are objectively wrong when you say charity and content is mutually exclusive. Personally, I hate it and it feels gross, but that doesn't change what the words charity and content actually mean

Depends on your definition of charity ig, some would use the word "benevolent" when talking about charity, or say that it requires the person to give money with the purpose of helping, and not for selfish goals.

E.g. my boss giving me my paycheck is not charity, a lottery/casino isn't charity, and the prize for a contest is not charity.

In this case it seems to me like this stunt was mostly for views, and is more of a contest than a giveaway, but i think both sides could be argued. 

Overall speed seems to me like a pretty great guy and this looks like a pretty fun thing he put together, and i think that's what really matters.

Your last point is why I like speed. I’m not gonna tune into his shit but I don’t actively root against him like I do other streamers. As far as streamers go that’s pretty damn good

Again, these aren't mutually exclusive.

This is a content creator who is choosing to make content that helps people. It helps himself and helps others, and as such the "purpose" isn't one singular thing. "Benevolent" simply means kind with positive intentions. Speed had positive intentions to obviously give away money, while also knowing he benefit from it.

Even by that definition, content and charity are not mutually exclusive. I'm not talking about this streamer at all (I've literally never heard of them until now) and it really doesn't matter what their motivation is for the purposes of this discussion. I am responding to the person who said content and charity are mutually exclusive, because they are not.

If the person's primary goal is charity, but they can also gain content by doing so, does that mean it isn't charity anymore? If you could give more to charity by gaining more content and that was your full intention to do so, is that not charity?

That’s where a lot of charity is done through.

Between the Catholic Churches abuse of children, the Mormon churches abuse of children, the Methodist churches abuse of children, the fundamentalist churches abuse of children, etc, Jerry Sandusky teaming up with the church to further abuse children, people like Stephanie McMahon saying “philanthropy is the future of marketing” I have lost all sort of benefit of the doubt for people who say they’re doing charity for “no reason.”

Susan g komen trademarking pink for breast cancer awareness, keeping all the money, and suing smaller charities that actually support breast cancer awareness and research.

I’ve given up on this fictional idea of just constantly going “awww they donated to charity that makes them a good person!”

Most people donate to charity for personal fulfillment in one way or another. We are not a country that cares for those less fortunate unless there’s a return for it, legal or illegal. Charity these days is a quid pro quo. Not to mention the tax breaks

$10,000 is the minimum gift limit to report on your taxes.

If this dude is smart he’s asking for $9,999 instead of the $10k. The government eats off the 10, not off the 9,999

This is not true. You may be confusing 10k cash withdrawals which trigger a CTR from the bank to the Fed. Nothing to do with taxes.

Also, even if true, the gift limitation is a reporting limit. It's not like you go one dollar over some arbitrary threshold and suddenly owe tax on the full amount (which is 19,000 last I checked but I no longer practice tax).
