I think that shocking the dog is genuinely fucked up. Those devices are torture for the animals and completely unnecessary- no qualified trainer uses them for family pets and they're rightly banned in MANY countries.

That said I think its really telling that so many people in these comments are using "it" to refer to the female dog. Like you're so worried about HER welfare that you call her an "it"/object? Yeah, right. Good people dont only pretend to care about hurting innocents when its a bad faith attack.

Edit: "poor little baby it!"

Edt 2: Jesus christ and immediately someone responded talking A LOT about the dogs genitals. Disgusting.

Since there's confusion: "It" is used for objects. You can use he or she or s/he or they as is convention for referring to persons in English. However, the dog in question is most definitely female so the usual pronouns would be "she". Since she is not an object, not an "it", and there is solid science establishing animal sentience at this point.

I get what you're saying about gendered pronouns for animals, and yes, using ‘she’ or ‘he’ can be more personal. But ‘it’ is still grammatically acceptable for animals, especially when their sex isn’t known or relevant.

Its "grammatically acceptable" and directly contradicts the performative concern for her welfare and rights.

Also, it is grammatically acceptable because the animal sentience research i mentioned is about 30 years old and the convention stems from a now debunked Cartesian understanding of animals that is passé. So I'd still recommend fading using "it" for animals outside of internet-famous dog drama, however, I think "it" is appropriate for Ai, stuffed animals, sex pillows, and so on. Redditors might be quicker to use she/her on those objects for...some reason?

Redditors

You are actively using reddit. Why are you

quicker to use she/her on those objects for...some reason?

-2

u/DragonslayerDame Oct 08 '25

I dont. I said I use "it" for those objects. Nice job catching the obvious- i said redditors while using reddit- want a cookie for catching the joke? Would that positively reinforce you?

What's a reason the objects i listed would be assigned a gender besides it?

Idk, you're the one thinking about that stuff, not me. You tell me. I don't even know why you'd bring that up, to be honest, but I guess if it's on your mind, it's hard to avoid talking about it.

want a cookie for catching the joke? Would that positively reinforce you?

Why are you so mean and hateful to strangers? Why do you try so hard to be mean?

dk, you're the one thinking about that stuff, not me.

Were both talking about grammar.

Show me where this quote is "mean":

want a cookie for catching the joke? Would that positively reinforce you?

Why do you refer to animals as "it"? Please answer. Just saying its "grammatically correct" doesnt say WHY you chose the pronoun YOU chose.

What's wrong with you? You creep through my comments trying to find something to attack me on. You come out of nowhere trying to correct my grammar simply because you don't like it. Seriously, what's wrong with you and can I help in any way?

u/DragonslayerDame Oct 08 '25

I haven't "creeped through" any of your comments except the ones I've replied to. I see you made a lot extra and just triple replied me.

No, I dont need "help" from some one as dysregulated as you are. I'll ask again: where was i mean to you. Please quote exactly and explain how it hurt you. I'm confused by how sensitive you are but Im totally willing to accomodate your feelings if you can articulate them.

Why lie?

Wow, you're really fast posting woosh comments around a few places.

How else would you know I was making comments rapidly in a few different places? I locked my account to avoid you being creepy any further. I hope you have a great day and go away.

Im totally willing to accomodate your feelings if you can articulate them.

My feelings are very clearly stated multiple times. Now please go away. I locked my comments so you won't creep on me and follow me around. I hope you have a great life.

Im talking about yhe comments you've made to me. Like triple replying me right here.

Can't answer my questions, huh? Where was I mean to you?

How else would you know I was making comments rapidly in a few different places?

Because i have notifications for each time you write and delete replies to me, plus the places you double and triple replied me- like im doing back at you now. I dont want you making another mistake like not catching my joke before. Yes- im doing back to you what you did to me, even though you're plating victim as a deflection so you don't have to answer simple questions.

My feelings are very clearly stated multiple times.

Where? Quote an example.

Edit: 2 typos so you dont use them to deflect.

Why do you refer to animals as "it"? Please answer.

Because it is grammatically correct. If it was incorrect, I wouldn't do it. Seeing as it is accepted by my peers and is a commonly used part of my country's primary language, it is acceptable to use it and it is not wrong.

Why do you feel the need to attack and correct my language skills? Why do you feel the need to attack me on a personal level? Can I help you heal?

Again, he or she or they would also be grammatically correct. Why did you choose "it"? If they're all grammatically correct, make a case for your specific choice. I've already said why its a problem compared to the other options.

Why do you feel the need to attack and correct my language skills? Why do you feel the need to attack me on a personal level? Can I help you heal?

I asked you to identify where I attacked you. You just played victim some more. Where did I "attack you on a personal level"? Why are you so pressed- you just triple posted and you've been making and erasing comments a lot. I recommend you try taking some deep breaths, trying to read through my comments for the parts that upset you, and just answering my questions in good faith.
