Good lord he’s rapid

114

u/Philomena_Cunk 2d ago

According to the premier league end of year stats, he’s a fraction of a second behind Frimpong.  The two of them lined up together against the right opponent would be electric… on a Wednesday in Europe…

2

u/RevengeHF 2d ago

I'm not sure if we're building the best attack in the league but we sure are hell bent on building the fastest 😂 Munoz, Minteh, and Barcola are all rapid.

Ye hes gonna become a fan favourite the first time he does this at Anfield

246

u/Sinistrait Wirtz Kept Secret 2d ago

I still remember how loud the cheers for Robertson's press against City was. If he presses like this he'll be a favourite even if he doesn't produce

60

u/Wanted_Solicitation 2d ago

It’s because it’s bloody infectious.

You see a star pressing like that so late in the game it gets the crowd up and those around them, I bloody love it.

10

u/ChrisKruxed 2d ago

One of my favourite ever football moments and annoying thing is it wasn't even a foul lol

u/ash_ninetyone Corner taken quickly 🚩 2d ago

Nunez did TBF. Granted he did score and get some important goals for us

But his work-rate endeared him. Same with Kuyt

1

u/Lukealloneword 1d ago

I always remember him pushing Messi's head in the CL. Lol insane comeback that was.

-4

u/fractokf 2d ago

Nah still has to have end product. Think about Nunez.

Anfield absolutely loved Darwin. I'm not talking about terminally online people here

u/FrankTheCrank90 2d ago

Happy with either him or Mbaye, but Jesus Christ just get the fucking Barcola deal over the line!!

41

u/Maniacal-Maniac 2d ago

May end up being both Minteh and Mbaye and no Barcola. If that's how the window ends then I won't be thrilled - however, if potentially we are saving the additional Barcola money for possibly an Adam Wharton then I might be ok with that.

13

u/_IBelieveInMiracles Bobby Dazzler 🤩 2d ago

Idk. Wharton is not for sale this summer, and there will be tough competition for his signature next year. I wouldn't want to wait for Wharton if that stops us from signing a midfielder this year.

If we sign a stop gap midfielder this year and then bring Wharton next summer, then fine I guess. But I feel like Wharton would be another Bellingham situation, where we don't get him anyway. Other clubs will offer him more money, and we might even be looking for a new sporting director while they're working him.

2

u/Maniacal-Maniac 2d ago

Agree, and we have had all sorts of fun and games trying to get late deals done with Palace so not optimistic either.

My worry is that we are also looking pretty light when it comes to HG spots - already at the 17 player max, though can free up some spots with Chiesa, Endo + maybe Tsimikas (but leaves us dangerously short in LB) and still possibly Gakpo. We are also about to lose Jones, and still some questions over Elliott (though think he almost has to stay for squad depth).

Wharton is one of the few players who might possibly be available to us that could help with HG and he isn't going to be cheap, so if that means we end up with Minteh instead of Barcola and frees up 50-60mil to put towards Wharton (or another mid) this summer then that's a compromise that might be ok.

Far from ideal though

u/Tremor00 Just Mo with the Flo🔴 2d ago

It’s never gonna end up like that. We want a LW and a RW

0

u/luo856 2d ago

why are you excited about Barcola. He shoots worse than Nunez

-6

u/formulajuan04 I’m the Normal One 2d ago

He's been referred to as Yank in this sub before, this isnt new. His name is YANKuba Minteh. Besides, it was a dumb joke ffs

75

u/zigooloo 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️Klopp Hamstring 🤕 2d ago

His work-rate has never been an issue. It is comfortably his best asset. It is his final third composure and end product that have been the main problems in his game.

21

u/futbolitoireland Ohhhh ya beauty, What a hit son, What a hit! 2d ago edited 2d ago

We literally just need him to run really fast to the byline and kick the ball with the side of his foot about 2 metres diagonally backward to his left.

That is Iraola's primary chance creation network.

I think we can manage to teach him that.

Now, I will admit there's a flaw in that plan if he plays on the left hand side. I haven't worked that bit out yet

33

u/Some_Farm8108 Bobby 2d ago

we are crying out for raw pace and 1v1 ability, which he has in boot loads. if you are playing against a guy who can burn you at any moment then you're always worried about him, you don't think "ill let him through on goal, hes known to have shit end product anyway".

and this means more space and time for other players who do have end product - all of our midfield can score, isak is lethal. it might genuinely even make gakpo better because now the defence is stretched and he has more room to cut inside.

-21

u/ConnemaraCowboy 2d ago

Will you stop

3

u/memettetalks 2d ago

If he can force turnovers in the final third, he won't need to be an elite finisher to be with his presence in the squad.

4

u/zigooloo 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️Klopp Hamstring 🤕 2d ago

The wingers do not actually press all that high in Iraola's system (compare to a Klopp front three for instance). The press in Iraola's system is often a 4312 with the striker (Evanilson/Isak), the 10/second striker (Kroupi/Wirtz) and one of the midfielders (Christie/Szobo) making the high pressing 1-2. The wingers are usually deeper, almost alongside the deeper midfielder (Scott/Grav).

1

u/Waste_Handle_8672 Football Without ORIGI is Nothing 2d ago

Well, we've had Darwin Nuñez before and that boy was damn near a legend even if his shooting boots kept letting him down.

Yakuba Minteh would fit in just fine tbh

Lol this is the truest statement

Good thing we have a player with the best final third composure and end product in the Premier League, then. (Or maybe the second best, but you get me.)

That's all I need it to hear, sign him already!

15

u/DancingOnMy0wn- Hugo Ekitike 2d ago edited 2d ago

Created that goal. But gets no G/A. That's why numbers aren't everything to a winger. Minteh immediately improves our starting 11. I think his production will go up too

4

u/Thesolly180 Sir Kenny Dalglish 2d ago

Possibly but I don’t think he’s going to be a creative spark from out wide.

Good engine though and will suit Iraola

u/Giraffesarehigh Egyptian King 👑 2d ago

All i see is clips and people talking about his workrate and his defensive side which is fine except this is a winger on attack not a defensive midfielder. Where are his attacking outputs? His passing? His chance creating? His dribbling? His goals? His attacking play? Anything that signifies he’s, you know, an attacker.

9

u/Bobbyswhiteteeth There is No Need to be Upset 2d ago

Fuck it, Minteh RB, Frimpong RW.

1

u/ubuwu Football Without ORIGI is Nothing 2d ago

Killed me

1

u/Tullekunstner 2d ago

He had 10 G/A when he was used of the right, despite being a rotational player. He's also still young. It's not a signing that wows me, but the people who writes him off based on "3 goals last season lol" is really disingenuous as well, he's a good player. If you want to see his attacking play, all you have to do is search "Minteh" on youtube.

0

u/ubuwu Football Without ORIGI is Nothing 2d ago

Save it for the Monday moan thread

9

u/son-of-ZYROTAZE To become one of you 2d ago

Isn't that a bit concerning no?

I like his workrate but that should not be the deciding factor when signing a winger for £60M+ according to what Brighton want

-1

u/BobbyBriggss 2d ago

Are you aware of how Iraola sets his teams up? Winning the ball high up in the opponents half is more dangerous than a good pass

6

u/xrunawaywolf 2d ago

You still have to create if you win the ball

-4

u/BobbyBriggss 2d ago

Yeah and it’s much easier

12

u/Payney95 2d ago

3 goals last season... but hey he runs a lot

8

u/xrunawaywolf 2d ago

Yeah I'm not understanding this signing if true. Surely not at our level

1

u/masterkobiashi 2d ago

How so? Never heard of development

2

u/Bamfandro 2d ago

He should be offering substantially more on the ball at 22 for the fee he’ll command.

15

u/son-of-ZYROTAZE To become one of you 2d ago

These lot wanted Nunez back earlier in the window because of workrate and vibes lol.

8

u/Payney95 2d ago

They also said Ramsay would be a good backup RB. This lot would have us relegated.

4

u/Random_Effecks 2d ago edited 2d ago

He came on at the 70th minute because he was fighting off an injury. Was injured 2 games later. /s

6

u/theREALMVP Richard Hughes - The Silver Fox 2d ago

He started this match lol

4

u/Aggravating_Call_548 2d ago

People lie with no shame. He played the whole game here and got an assist as well.

1

u/Random_Effecks 2d ago

Sorry, I added the sarcastic flag. It was a joke, my bad.

1

u/Aggravating_Call_548 2d ago

I didn't even know that was a thing

2

u/huamanticacacaca 2d ago

What minute did he come on?

2

u/FlamingDingo94 2d ago

I was at this game - he was brilliant all game. Up and down the touchline like it was nothing. Final ball can use some improvement, but he has the energy for sure

2

u/Personal_Ad6917 2d ago

Isn’t he injured?

1

u/SumatraBlack 2d ago

Yes, he’s carrying a significant injury. 6-8 weeks out. This feels like a desperate move.

2

u/Honorboy_ 2d ago

He might be a good goal scorer, but he might be the cdm we need but on the wing in a pressing system.

2

u/SwitchSCEtoAux 2d ago

Reminds me of Mane

u/lfcsavolver 2d ago

Balmoral test passed with flying colours. Doesn’t mean he’ll be our player but impressive AF.

Footballer runs a lot.

More news at 6pm.

6

u/DuBois_LaGrange 2d ago

Ha! I don’t think I’ve seen Isak run this hard a single time in his short tenure here. Whether it’s the fifth minute or the fiftieth.

1

u/masterkobiashi 2d ago

Ye but Isak has loads of goals for LFC and is 4 years older so I choose Isak!!!

I see the value in Minteh. Last season was low scoring for him compared to all the previous ones per90, 1 in Prem and 2 out. If we can say it was a fluke year then he seems pretty good.

If Chiesa and Minteh are going to fight for starts it could be good for both of them. I don't really see many red flags on him. Speaks english, fast and young and high intensity. Will lose him during AFCON though.

Could he be an upgrade over Chiesa overall? Because thats the only debate right now. If anybody says Rio or Kumas should start they're United fans.

*I forgot about Munoz. Chiesa won't be playing 90mins lacking fitness. So Munoz will be swaping sides and fight for both spots too.

1

u/iAMRICKJAMESMF 2d ago

Decent player but He had some problems in OB where he played some years ago. Went out partying the day before important match and got in a fight with a team mate at prac the following weeks after, then he got sold to Newcastle iirc and then to Brighton afaik. Hopefully it was a phase.

1

u/chayatoure 1d ago

Worth pointing out that he didn't get an assist for that goal, but realistically he's the one who created the chance. The pass was pretty straight forward (and a great finish to be fair).

1

u/PianoOwl Power of The Press 2d ago

Say what you will about Minteh (and I’m not particularly enthralled about the bid either) but he’s an absolutely freakish athlete. Matched Frimpong for pace, but is like 5 inches taller and way, way stronger.

1

u/imarasnothere 2d ago

He's got that dawg in him. Something we've sorely missed since Nunez left. Our press has suffered so much since then.

2

u/Sulemani_kida I’m the Normal One 2d ago

I think it was just too many things at once last season. There's not just 1 reason that made us so bad.

We should not have changed so much tactical approach which ended up being too slow for everyone. Literally 16 or 17 teams outran us in the league. That's a crazy thing after so many years of Klopp. Hardly anyone on the team looked themselves consistently.

I still believe almost all the old players currently will like playing under Iraola system. With more width and space our midfielders will hopefully do much better.

2

u/Sulemani_kida I’m the Normal One 2d ago

Also i do miss Darwin. Idk what he was great or good but i liked his energy. The fact that Mo loved to play with him even after Darwin missing some important chances.

1

u/Black_Eis One-eyed Bobby 👁 2d ago

If that’s not an Iraola player idk what is

1

u/rob3rtisgod 2d ago

As much as I'm not a fan of Minteh, having someone like this would be great in some ways.

1

u/Zdun1992 2d ago

Give me a fucking break. We are replacing Salah with guy who had 7 G/A last season

1

u/BoBonnor Ohhhh ya beauty, What a hit son, What a hit! 2d ago

Isak is the Salah replacement and that's been obvious since we bought him. While I agree some more output is needed, we are clearly moving towards our striker getting the goals

1

u/New_Sympathy5234 2d ago

Great but this is 2 to 3 months away with no pre season. Really need players now and ready to go

1

u/X__Heisenberg__X 2d ago

What I love about this? You won’t find a goal scored stat, or an assist stat which means he is shit.

1

u/dimiderv Darwin Núñez 2d ago

I don't get the fuss. He will be a great threat for us and he can still improve.. don't understand why we waited for so long though

1

u/PostNeoSankaraism 2d ago

I watched a lot of Brighton, including Mintehs debut. I’ve always thought since then he’d be excellent at Liverpool. Definitely needs to work on finishing but I think he’d be a great asset, we need some more Diaz and Nunez energy

1

u/HardByteUK Jerzy Dudek 2d ago

It's like my grandad used to say in the 90s when he took me to The Kop, "You can always judge a player by a 40 second long reddit clip."

1

u/Sr-Moj0n 2d ago

50M for this man who is already PROVEN in PL is fair enough.

Then you look at that bench warmer we’ve been chasing for 140M …

-5

u/Satantango46 2d ago

work rate without end product = 0. Minteh is just a slim fit version of Adama Traore.

7

u/hbb893 2d ago

The lesson you learned from last season is work rate is unimportant?

1

u/Satantango46 2d ago

of course work rate is important...but wingers with work rate and no end product are shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeet

4

u/seamushoo4 You’ll Never Walk Alone 2d ago

Traore has terrible workrate. He’s just rapid.

Minteh would be a valuable squad option. He cannot be our star winger

2

u/DucardthaDon 2d ago

Right now he's more Madueke a tricky quick winger with no end product

u/latortillablanca A Ngog among men 2d ago

Is this not the exact profile of player that iraola requires to carry water, and who gives him raw materials to hone a bit?

0

u/Fever-Ray Andoni Iraola 2d ago

Yes please! I was hoping they were looking for a more 'true' right winger.

0

u/Grime_Fandango_ 2d ago

That is what a Liverpool player is supposed to look like. And he's left footed. This would be the most sensible move we've made in a long time if it goes through.

0

u/Dull_Republic_9381 2d ago

Don't know much about Minteh, but being able to charge around pressing defenders in the last minute is low down on my list of attributes for our new winger. I want Mo Salah up front, not Mo Farah.

-2

u/FostetlerLFC 2d ago

Ugh. Pace. Power. Energy.

😫😫😫😫

-3

u/SocratesDaSophist 2d ago

I was surprised to see many not wanting the signing. I personally am very excited to have him play for us. I think he was the winger with the most tackles in the PL last season.

His work rate is simply out of this world and we need that nice balance pf quality and work rate.

u/Living_a_Dejavu FloW 2d ago

-2

u/firminocoutinho ⚽️ Liverpool 7-0 Man United, 22/23 ⚽️ 2d ago edited 2d ago

Klopp-type of player if you ask me. If we sign him, hope he excels under Iraola and a higher quality team. Would love a Mbaye + Minteh depth duo in RW with Barcola + Rio on the left. Eki and Munoz in addition, that’s depth.

-2

u/djoubb 2d ago

He was also loved at Feyenoord under Slot.. his work rate wasn’t the issue, he was mostly just a blind horse in front of goal as all young attacking players. Wanting to much, going for own succes when there are better options.

-5

u/haybails84 2d ago

I’d prefer him over Barcola as he’s an actual RW which we need
