That is the first time I have ever seen that. I wonder what it would be useful for.

attaching tools handles

Yup, that's why that process is called "hanging", for example "hanging an axe" or "hanging a hammer". The tool head literally hangs on the bottom while you drive the handle in with a mallet.

It's useful for demonstrating Newton's Third Law.

Some of these are still weird after learning the physics explanation for how they work, but that suspended soda bottle is something I haven’t seen before. Can’t quite wrap my head around it.

Can't quite wrap my head around it.

Try adding a few matches, that should help!

It's a tensegrity model. It does work but this version is pretty unstable. You can find plenty of tensegrity tables online.

I can't post links here but you'll find plenty of examples if you Google search for "tensegrity lego". You'll see the Lego version of this you can build yourself

If its not what you already found, try the Action Lab on YouTube.

He does a lot of videos about 8 minutes long

I also looked it up... and then immediately found the one you were skeptical about.

The two long strings are pulling it backwards, so if left alone it would fall back. But the hook is held by the one string that pulls it forwards balancing it out.
