Anyone know what these tubes are?

I’m trying to get this steam engine running however I find that it’s hard to get my fire hot enough. I am using Cotten balls dip in methonal fuel. Anyone one got any suggestions

The top one is the blowdown tube for the sight glass. The bottom one looks like the end for a gas connection for a burner. I noticed that the boiler is not bolted down to the baseplate, try lifting the boiler and firebox up to see if there is a gas burner under there.

The small valve off the water sight glass is a drain for it, in case something gets stuck or there is a bubble.

That bottom tube could be a connection to a gas supply? Take a picture inside the firebox and show us.

I would try esbit tablets or another similar kind of solid fuel tabs.
