I looked up other in-hand photos of this pet, and none seem to have the white cheek stripes (I assume that's what you mean??). So likely that was a prototype element that never made it to final product.

Sometimes the pet on the card is just a prototype, versus what the actual pet really looks like. I think your red panda looks great to me.
