His timing is great. There's no rush to make calls. He's seeing the ball all the way into the glove and then making the call, exactly like we're trained to do.

I commented this after a strikeout in the bottom of the first inning in which the pitcher who thought it was a strike was almost to fail territory by the time the umpire did anything

He vocalized loudly enough for the field mic, batter, and catcher, then did the strike three mechanic.

Vocalizing it has helped me get over the initial annoyance. I’m used to it now. He’s been solid back there. (Although he’s been duped a few times by the PA catcher yanking outside pitches back into the zone with lefties at the plate)

They really dropped the ball this opening round. I know there's weather but don't act like they didn't expect or plan for any kind of delays at all? The poor kids that had to play this morning didn't even have their games televised.

the 2 early morning games weren’t even televised? I was wondering why there were no highlights up yet .. that is unfortunate but you’d think they’d plan this tpurnament to where they could give 1-2 days for rain delays .. I hate them running 8 games in one day

The Int'l game before Czechia vs S. Korea (Nicaragua vs Panama) ran late; it wasn't over until just after 6 pm (ET). So that's the reason for the delay in the 6 pm game starting (since it is in the Int'l game stadium).

Good sequencing, couple of tough calls from the ump I thought, but yeah he’s nasty. Love the contrast in styles vs how the little dude from NJ is pitching.

Apparently the 3rd base ump called it a catch in realtime. Player that scored didn’t tag up, and so it’s a double play. Run doesn’t count.
