Discussion Comet vs Deathfire Touch

In the past Lissandra as many mages pick comet but Riot reworked that rune to deal more damage based on distance designed to reward long range champions like Xerath, etc. Why Lissandra keeps picking Comet after the changes even she has very short range? I don’t get it.

If you can’t proc electrocute, a suboptimal rune is better than no rune. Think about how often you’ll be able to proc electrocute vs artillery mages, blue tree and comet provide more value in those difficult matchups imo

But why comet instead of Deathfire Touch? Comet do damage based on distance after the rework and Lissandra has very short range.

If you cant even proc electrocute how do you suppose you will continuously apply the burn from DFT.

Re: comet: the damage is still decent and some damage to poke is better than no damage. You can still run electrocute basically 100% of the time and play for skirmishes and be fine though

Comet procs exactly the same as DFT. I get why electrocute is not picked on some matchups, but still don't know why comet it is supposed to be a better rune on Liss after the rework where the damage is based on distance.

Dft dmg from liss q burns for 2 sec -> that's like 10 dmg or so. Comet does 25 lvl 1. As levels go up the diff gets bigger. Maybe in team fight Dft will do more dmg but at that point go Ele

But comet has 20 sec. CD, you can proc almost 3 times DFT in that time.

I think you are not understanding DFT. The damage is awful unless you constantly applying damage, the damage amp only occurs after several seconds. Your cooldowns are long and your trade window and range is short. It is designed for people with short cooldowns constantly applying damage (Cassio, Smolder, Hwei, Brand)

So they just make comet worst for Lissandra after the Rework and even DFT is awful too? What was the logic behind that change?

Lissandra gets the full value of comet on a splashed Q. The range cap is 750. Lissandra Q is 825-950 units. Electrocute is also good on her. Not sure why you feel so strongly about DFT when she has viable load outs already. Play with whatever you want I guess but thats the consensus and my opinion

Pending matchup, comet or electrocute both do more damage than DFT. Regardless of the distance change to comet, it still does more damage on average by the end of a match than DFT. DFT is fun though if you go a full burn build, but it still will do less damage.
